Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

Pours black with red-brown around the edges, layer of tan to light brown bubbles to cover the beer, roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla aromas with some chocolate cake fragrances and alcohol that has a whiskey touch, some prune and dark fruit fragrances, dark and sweet malt with roasted malt flavors, some chocolate and alcohol warming, sweetness dissipates and alcohol lingers into the end to give a mostly dry finish, very little hops, mouth feel appears thin, I thought it was a little much on the alcohol, needs more malt flavor to balance the alcohol, it is a so, so to ok Imperial Stout.

Bottle from Mike at the beerinator gathering last sunday. Nose was oaky, whiskey, chocolate, and vanilla. Flavor followed suit with good oak and whiskey flavors that were not too overpowering. One of the better beers I have had from Weyerbacher.

Wow, black, thick, pour, brown foam. Smells of alcohol, and heaven. Goes down very smooth, a great stout.

Bottle. Boozy aroma has oaky, bourbonous notes. Lightly fruity with vanilla and faint chocolate malt balls. Motor oil pour, very nearly opaque with a fizzy tanned / light brown head. Hot, hot body, whew, with some fumes. Taste is dark roast with oak and vanilla, slight chocolate more toward the aftertaste and a thin body with a somewhat caustic feel. Throat too warm. Unbalanced mess.

Bottle from 2005 @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Pours a dar brown almost black color with a small off-white head. Roasted malty fruity bourbon aroma with hints of chocolate. Sweet malty okak flavor with hints of vanilla and chocolate. Malty warming finish with lots of bourbon notes.

22oz bottle, this beer has been sitting for about 6 months, a good dark pour with brown head, very flavorful with tons of dark roasty chocolate flavor then more and more vanilla flavor as the beer warms up to room temp.. a good brew but sort of one sided in the taste.

22 oz bottle courtesy of coldbrewky. Consumed at cellar temp. Poured black with the darkest tan head I’ve ever seen. Palate was dry for an Imperial Stout. Quite flavorful with everything you would expect from an Impy, plus some wood and as the beer warmed, the bourbon started to come through. Not real heavy, but it was there. This is a sipping brew. Will someday look to trade for another one of these.

Bourbon aroma and flavor. Black color. It looks thick but is surprisingingly thin on the palate. Moderate malt in the flavor, and the bourbon is everywhere in the flavor and aroma. I don’t care for bourbon beers very much and I sure am bored with this, but this beer does the bourbon better than many others.
