The head is a tad thick for an imp.stout. Chestnut brown. Creamy and reasonably quick in subsiding. Sweet, candy/bubblegum aroma, alcohol, bakers chocolate, and coffee. There is a noticeable alcohol bite, slight bourbon and oak taste, burnt chocolate and coffee. Very prominent roast. Burnt roasty palate with an alcohol coolness. The finish was warm from alcohol and sweet. Overall a much better imperial stout than I expected but I also love imperial stouts and tend to have a bias towards them.

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 18, 2007 The beer pours black with a dark tan head that stays with it for most of the glass. The beer has a heavy alcohol taste, almost like that of liquor. It has a moderate coffee taste with underlying hints of chocolate. The finish is heavy and stays with you...like liquor. Its not a bad brew, its just not for me. Naven (875), Poway, California, USA

The barrel aging is done superbly, but the actual imperial stout is not as good as some of the others out there. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 8, 2007 Overwhelming bourbon nose which masks everything else but if I remember old heathen it didn’t have much aroma to begin with. Flavor isn’t as overpowering with bourbon as the aroma. only notice the chocolate on the finish. A little better than old heathen but in a different league compared to todays modern super stouts. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 7, 2007 bottle. Pours dark with a tannish head. Aroma is somewhat alcoholish, as is the taste. An unpopular opinion but i think the alcohol may overpower the rest (which is chocolate, malt, etc) Jvittorio4187 (255), Boardman, Ohio, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Mar 6, 2007 Pours black awesome thick brown head. Vanilla, milk chocolate, roasted malts, oak and a touch of bourbon all come through very well. The mouthfeel is extremely creamy and silky smooth probably the creamiest imperial stout I’ve ever had. Almost an imperial sweet stout which is a good idea. I’ll buy this again many times. ogglethorp (889), Ohio, USA
