Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

Black velvety look with mild head, malty alcoholic nose aroma, bubbly palate, can occasionally taste the oak barrels but would have preferred more, leave a hoppy feel on the sides of the tongue

Not a very impressive Impy. I have mixed feelings on oak aging. If it overpowers the taste its bad. This is bad. The oak is too overpowering and pushes the other tastes back. There are some roasted malt and chocolate notes as well as some vanilla, but the oakness won’t let them shine.

Very strong alcoholic taste, brandy, cognac and the like. Deep dark black colour. Thick lacing head. Tastes very smooth, but the alcohol taste is too overpowering.

Pours a deep dark black with a rich tan head. The aroma has oak, vanilla, whiskey, dark fruit, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor is smooth with a complex richness of vanilla, chocolate, bourbon, and dark fruit, accompanied by a touch of roastedness at the finish.

Pours pitch black. The foam head is a real dark tan. The smell and everything else is really good. The flavor is smooth. The drinkability is awesome. Just finished the first cup, and adjusted the drinkability to 4.5. :banned:

Pours black with a brown head. Strong chocolate aroma with molasses, dark fruits, oak, and bourbon. Flavor is stronger with oak and bourbon then the nose suggests. I was expecting a slightly more balanced flavor. There are also flavors of chocolate, dark fruit, and molasses. I think there’s a little too much oak on this one, other then that it’s a delicious brew.

Pours an almost opaque black with an initially large deep tan head that fades, no lacing. The aroma is great with a huge cocoa malt roastyness, some caramel hints and a big oakey and bourbon-like whiskey character. The flavor is initially big sweet bourbon which is followed by a quick and slightly tart cranberry-like hint. Lots of woody notes throughout, especially in the middle. The finish is the best part of the flavor scale with a delicious deeply roasted chocolate flavor that’s long and appetizing. The early sweet bourbon flavors are complimented by the roasty finish. Definitly an enjoyable and a well balanced oak aged stout.

Malty, nutty beer, with decent oak. Pours nicely, dark with light brown head, nice lacing. Flavor is decent, some roastiness, lots of malt, nuts, and old shoes. Full bodied. Good beer, but not great for an IS. Worth trying still.
