Smells of roasted nuts, malts, and chocolate. Get some coffee as well. Taste is pretty full bodied. Definitely get that nice chocolate coffee, and roasted malts taste of an imperial stout. This brewery is pretty damn good. Ive pretty much liked most of the beers Ive had from them. Finish has some semblences of some very dark fruit in it as well which I thought was pretty interesting. Overall good job with this one. MrBendo (1044), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 28, 2007 Pours black with a medium head. Spare lacing. Aroma of bourbon, coffee and chocolate. Taste was the same. All the complexity lent by the hops in Old Heathen was forsaken for the bourbon barrel flavor. IMHO, a less complex brew results. But it’s still pretty good for bourbon lovers. rayg1 (445), Ft. Mill, South Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 27, 2007 Samples with ross, thanks man! Pours out black and thick with the biggest brown head I’ve seen on an Impy Stout so far. This beer looks its style "stout" and impressive. The aroma is bourbon with some nice roasted and chocolate smells as well. The taste is bold enough but not too overwhelming with bourbon as you might expect, in fact, the bourbon complements the dark chocolate and roasty taste that you get with this imperial stout. A very nice beer and glad that I can get this in NC now. Very good. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 24, 2007 This one announces its presence with authority, only with visuals and not with words. Pours an oil black color with a thick tan head that that rises quickly and overflows the glass as if to say, "Fuck yo clean counter mahfucker!" As I look at this beer I feel as if I need to prepare myself. This one looks like an Imperial Stout. It looks burly. It looks like you might need a freakin’ chaser to finish it. I begin to prepare myself for 22 ounces of burning alcoholic hell and I’m giddy with excitement. As I smell the beer I pick up white chocolate, fresh brewed coffee and a wee bit of bourbon. The shock comes with just how mellow this beer actually is. I expected a hot bourbon tasting experience with lots of alcohol burn. I got a lovely chocolatey stout at the beginning with a wallop of creamy vanilla and a solid slightly boozy finish that was a pleasure to experience throughout this 22 oz drinking experience. Well it wasn’t what it looked like but it was a lot of fun to drink. Hooray imperial oak aged bourbon barreled etc! Bockyhorsey (2554), Mesa, Arizona, USA

Black body with tan head and some good lacing. Sweet alcohol and chocolate flavor. Also had a fruit presence in the flavor as well, Left the palate with an aftertaste like you just had a Hersey’s chocolate bar. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA

Pours black with a massively lacy tan head, Aroma of vanilla, oak, molasses. Creamy medium body and light carbonation. Sweet chocolate-vanilla taste with some light coffee and smoke notes. Almost wandering into vanilla latte territory. Clean pine finish. after4ever (2825), Brier, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2007 Bomber, courtesy the kind hospitality of BitBucket. Hopeless label. Pours a perfect opaque black. Moussy, rocky, surging tan head. Clear oak and vanilla notes on the nose, along with nice roast and even a little red fruit. Big attack, though the body’s a little light for the style--the flavors carry through even on the weak knees of the watery-ish body. Roast and a little chocolate again on the mid-palate, and again they’re overshadowed by that oak and vanilla. Tangy, clingy, roasty-bitter-pine finish. Great, if not quite completely amazing, stuff. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 20, 2007 Deep black with a short brown head. Nose of aged rum and merlot with a roasted malt backbone. A very rich thick beer with plenty of coffee and toasted malt that is very pleasant to drink.
