Commercial Description:
This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced. The aroma is filled with vanilla, cocoa, and roasted coffee beans. This silky-smooth brew has notes of oak, whiskey, roasted barley and vanilla that meld together on the tongue to create an incredible sensation. Heresy is released in February.

12 oz. bottle, no batch number. Oaky bourbon nose with an interesting sour "port-wine gone bad" character. Roasted malts dominate flavor and are accompanied by bourbon, fruits and vanilla. There’s a nice balance with sweet malts and the dryness brought by barrel-aging. Finish is dry and long. Palate is thinner than expected and could have used more "motor-oil viscosity" to be really imperial.

Bottle: Very dark brown pour, a medium tan head that has some great lacing. Aroma, dark fruits, chocolate, oak, some toffee. Flavor, roasty malts, some woodiness, chocolate, vanilla. The alcohol isn’t noticable at all. There’s a nice sweet roasty finish to it, but it just doesn’t have that thick viscous feel to it that I crave in a good imperial.

This is the kind of oak-aged beer that impresses me — one that doesn’t taste like you are running your tongue across newly split, green wood. In other words, the oak is in the background and tends to highlight the other flavors that are nicely balanced. Inky black pour with a frothy dark tan head. The nose is filled with roasted malts, caramel, molasses, chocolate, coffee and a note of vanilla. And then there’s the oak. Light grassy hops are also detectable. Its flavor is long and sweet with moderate acidity and bitterness. The full body presents a thick and chewy texture. Average carbonation and a long finish.

22 oz. bottle. Pours opaque black with a thick, creamy tan head. Light pleasant aroma of coffe and chocolate. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt. As the beer warms, a warming scotch whiskey flavor becomes more noticeable. Very good stufff...I’ll be back for more!

This stout has a deeply dark brown body with a thin tan head. It has light aromas of caramel, coffee, chocolate and nuts. It is thick and dreamy with coffee and bourbon flavors.

This bottle has about 8 months on it. Pours midnight black with a thick, frothy mocha colored head. Vanilla beans and chocolate fudge dominate the boozey nose. The thick, chewy mouthfeel is a great vehicle for this nicely balanced, but complex beer. The oak adds a great background to the sweet malts. The touch of subtle wood and vanilla play off the brownie sweet body. A touch of pipe tobacco and woody smoke fill the mouth as well. Marshmellows also come to mind. The finish dries out nicely, but not too much, leaving just enough sweetness on the palate.

Bottle obtained in a trade with fyrecrakker05. Pours an opaque black color with a tiny tan head and just a little bit of lacing. Aroma is roasty and big with lots of slightly bitter coffee hints. Flavor is very roasty/milky with slight chocolate and caramel hints, milky on the palate and vanilla and bourbon definitely come through in teh flavor. Another very enjoyable Weyerbacher beer!!

Bottle. Black in colour. Lots of flavour/and a big aroma, thats for sure. Lots of vanilla, chocolate, mocha, oak, licorice in the nose. palate shows all these flavours and remains quite sweet throughout. Theres a lot of flavour, but it doesn’t quite meld together, and it seems a little unbalanced at times. Not bad, i think i prefer the Old Heathen to this though.
