Aroma is of rich oak aged bourbon barrels, whiskey, vanilla coffee beans and a hint of coconut. Flavor is dominated by the oak barrel bourbon. Hints of vanilla, whiskey and dark chocolate dominate the palate. Much better than the Old Heathen. Excellent overall. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 26, 2006 Dark, midnight color. Smell of Caramel, alcohol, chocolate, hops, malt, bourbon and alcohol. I know I said it twice but its very high for me. Taste of chocolate, bourbon, hops, caramel and a wonderful sweet/ woody bitterness at the end. brewblackhole (1380), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 24, 2006 Thanks Kingpin for sharing this one. The aroma of alcohol dominated the aroma ,so strong it reminded me of the whiff I got of SA’s Utopia, more of a scotch wiskey than a bourbon, once that wave passed you could detect the vanilla, and coffee, taste again high scotch whiskey, followed by the sweet vanilla coffee malt tastes. Tastes much more potent then 8.2,I would try it again anytime

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 19, 2006 22 oz. bottle via trade with jasonmech77 - Pours black with a good size tan head that slowly fades. Nice lacing. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Flavor is much the same with enough hop bitterness to give it a little zing. A very smooth full bodied beer. An excellent beer. Thanks Jason. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 15, 2006 12oz bottle. Sent it home from The Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA. Beer is a nearly opaque dark brown with a small, frothy, light brown, totally diminishing head. The aroma is quite rich. It’s malty with round, moderate notes of roasted grain, chocolate and caramel, trace of molasses; Hoppy with light note of herb, trace note of resin/pine; Yeasty with a light note of sharp cheese; Heavy miscellaneous note of alcohol, moderate-to-heavy burbon, oak and vanilla. Really pretty. I think it’s time out in the barrel knocked some of the edges off of the aroma and rounded out into a more lyrical shape. Great result. The flavor is moderately-to-heavily sweet, moderately tangy/acidic with a long, moderately warm, lightly bittersweet finish. The body is medium-to-full, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is soft. Find myself hoping for a little more luxe of a net palate. Again... wish this were here. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 14, 2006 Pours out dark with a thin tan head. Smell is slightly oaky, some vanilla, roasted malts, and chocolate. Taste is very similar to old heathen with a little bit of oak notes to it. Rather thin, but a pretty good summer imperial stout. I liked it. Full of coffee and toffee. Not bad. BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 9, 2006 Huge amounts of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, toffee and bourbon all in the aroma and flavor. The barrel aging gives such a silky smooth texture and mellows the flavors. Very good. MrDick (277), San Francisco, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 4, 2006 This is the way all imperial stouts should be made - in an oak barrel. The oak gives it some nice bourbon/whiskey flavors but are not overpowering of the thick chocolate and roasted malt flavors. As the stout warmed, more flavors were evident - a little more oak, tofee and cofee. Too bad you can’t find this on the west coast....
