Head was nice initially (esp. for high abv), lacing ok. The aroma was of oak, wood chips and coffee, along with some bourbon or liquor. The flavor was comparable, coffee more prevalent. Mouthfeel was moderate to heavy. Not a lot of hop balance, but good stuff. theacelatrain (262), Washington DC, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 8, 2006 Bottle. Pours black hole black, with a medium brown head. Dark, smokey chocolate aroma. Heavy flavors - dark chocolate, burnt coffee, and slight dark fruit, with a strong woody and brandy notes. Smooth, soupy, and a tad tarry - but HEAVY. Delightful. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 5, 2006 WOW! Just opened my 2yr old 12oz bottle. Got it right from the brewery and man is it good. Tastes like Jim Beam and coffee in a pint glass. Delicious! Carbonation doubled and it tastes as though the abv level did also. This beer is meant to be aged and its well worth the wait. kevin62 (267), New Jersey, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 20, 2006 Appearance: Dark color with a pinky-sized tan head.
Smell: Smells kind of like a JD and coke to me. Sweet fruit and burnt malt wood and slightly harsh vanilla.
Taste: roasty chalk , sweet, chocolate, vanilla, with a dry, slightly bitter finish. A little watery, but overall a pleasant pull. No alcohol taste, which at only 8.2% is a good thing
Palate: on the light end of an imperial stout.
A drinkable brew, nothing earth shattering. I could session this baby under some circumstances, which is scary.

Aroma of espresso, bits of dark chocolate, and oak chips. Flavor was excellent - strong espresso notes, cream, roasted oak, dark chocolate, and malts. Goes down nice and smooth - I need to get more of this. BeerandBlues2 (3230), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
