Has a good aroma of malts, chocolate, and hints of vanilla. Has a good carbonation. A good mouthfeel.. The flavor is strong with plenty of alcohol, but the sweet chocolate does come through. Has a big sweet flavor kick which settles as you sip the beer. Has a syrupy texture, a full body. This one builds up to a good finish and a decent aftertaste. BrewDad (2370), Olympia, Washington, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 21, 2009 Black in the glass, strong picturesque tan head that mushroomed over the rim of the glass but refused to break tension and dribble down the glass. Speaking of mushroom, there’s a bit of that earthy meaty aroma here, along with a touch of white alcohol, saturated wood and rum. After all that intensity, the drink is very mellow and drinkable straight away. Caramelized marshmallow, now the bourbon barrel powers through, semisweet chocolate and scorched grain. As an impy stout that doesn’t try to beat me over the head with any particular flavor, it’s more impressive as the details stand out. I would buy this by the case if I could, I’m a bigger fan with each sip. drfabulous (1243), Columbia, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 20, 2009 Chocolate aroma. Heavy carbonation. On first taste, not getting a lot of bourbon. A touch lingers. Vanilla. Coffee. Nice overall. But I would like more bourbon to come through. IlanMan (817), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 17, 2009 Bottle. Pour was thick and dark with a medium tan head. Aroma was of chocolate, light roast, bourbon, and oak. Flavors were really well blended making this a smooth and drinkable brew. A slight coffee roast appeared in the finish as well as more chocolate. The oak and bourbon were somewhat hidden, however, the bourbon was present a bit more than the oak. Very fine brew. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 13, 2009 12oz bottle. Interesting stout. I don’t seem to be tasting the chocolate as much as everyone else but I do get hints of bourbon and oak. It does seem a little thin and overly carbonated but still a good imperial stout (not that I have yet to taste a bad imperial stout). HonkeyBra (1342), Lemont, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 7, 2009 Black pour with a tan head. Aroma of powdered chocolate, some bourbon, Flavor is chocolate, bourbon, oak, and alcohol. Some vanilla. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and too carbonated for an oak aged imperial stout. It’s still a really good drink, though. Hoptagon (144), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 30, 2009 12oz. Bottle. Dark chocolate color with a rich layer of tan foam. First hit on the nose is pure oak followed by notes of bourbon and vanilla. Taste is heavily roasted with strong hop bitterness and a touch of sweet malt. The chocolate character is more subdued than I expected. Palate is slick, but a bit thinner and less chewy than other beers in this style. Alcohol is hardly noticeable even at warmer temperatures. A dry pungent roasted coffee character laced with a touch of whiskey dominates the finish. Pretty good, but the thin palate keeps it from being great.
