Very spiced aroma, mostly nutmeg and cinnamon, a bit of malt. Very smooth, nicely mild for a spiced beer. Relatively subtle cinnamon flavor. bigbobdog (39), USA

You can actually taste the pumpkin in this one. I recommend this to anyone who likes or wants to try a pumpkin ale. BeerFanDan17 (625), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 3, 2008 A very tasty pumpkin ale--probably in my top three best ever pumpkin ales. A balanced and spicy palate of pumpkin pie, cinammon, nutmeg, and crust. Pours dark orange with a short head. Rciesla (3720), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

All sampled as 5oz pours. Clove, spices, nutmeg, and of course pumpkin. Good beer. JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 2, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very hazy dark amber, with a nice off-white head that quickly settles down to a ring around the edges. Nose is pure pumpkin pie - pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon all blended with a hint of brown sugar sweetness. Taste is very spicy - pumpkin peeks through early, is quashed by nutmeg, cinnamon, a bit of brown sugar and even some yeast, and then back comes the pumpkin to really emerge before the finish. Finish also has standard spices with a bit of yeast as well, with just a bit of alcohol. None of the vegetal qualities some pumpkin beers take on. Miver (568), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 2, 2008 12oz bottle. Poured a deep brown in color with a tan head. Aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon and pumpkin. Tastes of pumpkin but quickly overtaken by the cinnamon, nutmeg and mild alcohol warming. Lightly sweet with an ok body.
This has always been hit or miss with me. I’ve had great bottles, and some others were very rough. mansquito (834), Boston/Philadelphia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 1, 2008 No head really and a muddy brown body. This is a straight up pumpkin ale. The smell is straight up pumpkin and all the spice that goes with it. Very little hops in the taste. Alcohol is covered over. Really pumpkiny and spicy finish. Nice beer and easy drinking. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 29, 2008 I haven’t had a Southern Tier Pumking yet this year, but from my memory, it is a little better than this beer. However, this beer is still quite a good pumpkin beer.
It pours a clear bronze color with plenty of head and a brilliant body. Aroma is spicy and distinctly pumpkin-y...the dirty little secret of this style is that many pumpkin beers don’t contain pumpkin, just the spices that remind us of pumpkin pie. But I swear in this beer you can smell the pumpkin which it professes to contain. Flavor is similar; spice, pumpkin, and alcohol. Mouthfeel is dry and clean. Quite good.
I would recommend this beer. While I think I like Pumking better, this is still an excellent pumpkin beer.
I bought this 4-pack at Discount Liquor in Milwaukee.
