Commercial Description:
Brewed with Pumpkin and Spices(Cinnamon,Nutmeg,Cardamom,Cloves). This 8.0% ABV pumpkin ale is heartier, spicier, and more caramelly and pumpkiny than its faint brethren! Perfect finisher on a cool autumn night, or match it up with a slice of pumpkin pie and fresh whipped cream. If you don't agree this is the mother of all pumpkin ales, then you just don't like mothers!

From a 12-oz bottle shared by brewfiend, pours a semi-hazy light brownish orange brew with a beige head that slowly dissolves to a fine film and off-white ring. Aroma of more pumpkin than most other pumpkin ales I’ve tried with additioanl scents of cinnamon, nutmeg, a touch of mincmeat, and almonds. Taste is medium bodied, lightly carbonated with a malty/pumpkin flavor with addtional nutmeg spices and texture. Finish is slightly dry with a pumpkin aftertaste. I can just see Jack Skeleton of Nightmare Before Christmas to sing outloud after trying this, "I am the Pumpkin King!"

22oz bomber from RSVP. Copper-red translucent body with a good inch of offwhite head that dissipates slowly leaving some lacing. Smells like cinnamon, nutmeg, nut, banana, and pumpkin. Nutmeg plays a big roll in the flavor as well, with pumpkin and fruit also at the forefront and hints of cinnamon as well. No alcohol flavor detectable, thought a bit of alcohol warming is present. Fairly full in mouthfeel with a fair bit of carbonation keeping the finish somewhat clean with just a bit of alcohol and spice present afterward. One sip definitely invites another. A pretty solid pumpkin ale, and something I can see having as a comfort beer year after year in the fall.

Great pumpkin aroma on this beer, or pumpkin pie anyway. Nice spices. Unlike many pumpkin beers, this has considerable malt and hops in the flavor in addition to the pumpkin flavor. Light brown color. One of the few Weyerbacher beers I have really enjoyed.

Thanks to Brewfiend for sharing. Pours a nice orangish amber color. Super strong nutmeg, cinnamopn, and cardamom. Very nice spicy almost grainy mouthfeel with a good dose of the pumpkin pie spices, as well as a nice floral hit at the end, that lead to a killer long lasting finish. This is fantastic for a beer alone, much less a spiced beer.

Fairly clear red pour with a full, staying head of beige heavy cream. The cardamom and nutmeg play most prominently in the sweet and spicy parade. It could fairly be called pumpkin pie, with a lovely vanilla coating on graham butter-crust. Lively and nuanced. Subtle taste, with a surprising nutty dominance of chestnuts and almonds. This is a very quiet, pleasant sweetness. Cloves settle in with a dry, woody rub. Soft pumpkin sugar, honey, and a thin whiskey with mild heat. Finishes clean and fairly bitter, with a distant cinnamon hangover. Lacks density. The high gravity is salutary, the spices deftly managed, the cloying tendency restrained. It works, but it seems that the pumpkin idea could benefit from a darker base.

Nov. 2005 - Okay, I hate pumpkin ales...I really do...but eaglefan538 made me drink this. I only had about a tiny sample and I still contemplated throwing half of it away. Too spicey, sickly sweet. Yuck. Oct. 2008 update - KSBF 08. Still to sweet, still sickly, still tons of spice. Not my favorite style, admittedly, so take it with a grain of salt. Still couldn’t finish my small sample.
