Spicy flavor that overpowers the pumpkin taste and leaves a tingling sensation on the tongue. Medium body could have been creamier. But overall excellent. thornecb (1804), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2007 Pours deep amber into a shaker. Bright white head quickly subsides to hug rim. The label says cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom and cloves. I don’t know what cardamom smells like, but I can smell it here. Upfront crisp and malty and full with a lasting spice burn. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 5, 2007 22 oz bottle. Smells spicy (mostly nutmeg), with acidic vomity undertones that remind me of less-than-great microbreweries and homebrews. Very thin taste... has a spicy, cinnamony quality but virtually no aftertaste. If you want a great pumpkin beer, find yourself some Southern Tier Pumking. DrHomolka (731), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Sep 5, 2007 Bomber. Pours fiery ruby red with a nice compact white head. Aroma has ginger (even though it’s not included in the spice list?) and in the background some pumpkin stuff. Nutmeg is very apparent but the smell sickens me (long story). As it warms up the pumpkin pie smell gets more appetizing and rounded. Ginger is still the most obvious smell to me. Taste is watery, normal, with a finish of pumpkin. The taste is a downer. Very average. Drinking this side by side with the Southern Tier Pumking was a bad choice because this beer is quite inferior. Not bad by any means just not good enough. surffisher (196), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2007 2007 bomber bottle. Pours deep copper and clear, with a nice frothy head. Aroma is of hearty, spicy pumpkin pie with lots of all of the listed spices coming through. Wow - the flavor is very full for a pumpkin beer. Some complex malty/winey notes (reminiscent of an old ale) merge harmoniously with a solid pumpkin base and an excellent balance of spices (cardamom was a great idea). Mouthfeel was nice as well - smooth and medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation; no alcohol. For the style, I can’t find many faults with this one. Easily the best pumpkin beer I’ve ever had. bbbrew (183), Washington DC, USA

This beer did not disappoint and lived up to the hype. Without a doubt the one that all other pumpkin ales need to live up to!
