The beer pours a medium amber color with a nice white head that lasts about two minutes. The beer throws strong notes of spices in the aroma, along with a fairly prevalent note of pumpkin, likely added post-mash and fermentation, rather than within the mash prior to brewing. The palate brings very strong notes of spice, almost to the extent that it blows out the palate. There are notes of malt, but it is pretty well muted by the tidal wave of spice that comes through. The finish is semi-sweet, and leaves a lingering finish of cinnamon/all-spice/hazelnut notes. Overall, a nice interpretation, but in need of a bit of moderating in terms of spice addition. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 19, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark orange. Pumpkin-being head. Not much lacing. Aroma is clove, cinnamon, pumpkin pie. Slight carbonation, nice pumpkin finish. Not watery or synthetic flavored like most pumpkin/oktoberfest beers I’ve tried. Maybe the best example of the genre I’ve had. mcox90 (642), Wilton, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 19, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark copper/orange color with a 1/4" beige head and spotty lace. Aroma is pumpkin pie filling with some clove spice. Solid palate. Flavor at first was strong pumpkin, kind of syrupy and artificial and I thought crap, here’s $3.00 I’ll never see again, but then it mellowed out to a wonderful slightly pumpkin and spice flavored brew. To my surprise, this is one of the better pumpkin ales I’ve had. Pricey, but good. hershiser2 (914), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
