Commercial Description:
Brewed with Pumpkin and Spices(Cinnamon,Nutmeg,Cardamom,Cloves). This 8.0% ABV pumpkin ale is heartier, spicier, and more caramelly and pumpkiny than its faint brethren! Perfect finisher on a cool autumn night, or match it up with a slice of pumpkin pie and fresh whipped cream. If you don't agree this is the mother of all pumpkin ales, then you just don't like mothers!

12oz bottle from total wine in norfolk. pours a clear, chestnut brown with hints of gold and a short, light beige head with solid lacing. aroma is very nice with big notes of spicy nutmeg, cinnamon, artificial pumpkin pie filling, sweet ginger, and autumn potpourri. flavor follows the aroma exactly with a great balance of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove spiciness with sweet pumpkin pie and caramel malts leaving a dry, spiced pumpkin pie finish. palate is medium bodied and smooth with solid carbonation. overall, a very tast pumpkin ale.

I truly hate pumpkin beers, so my review of this can safely be discounted. It is in some ways true to the style, with obvious spices and taste of a despised gourd. Hazy deep amber, virtually no head or lace. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and other spices predominate in the flavor, then that gourd again, then enough alcohol and syrup to make me think of a poorly made barley wine, but the malts are hidden. Average palate, may be the best part of the beer. Not fair, I know, but I just hate this stuff. Not sure I would risk cooking with it.

Nice deep reddish golden brown color. Aroma is of cinnamon, nutmeg, malts, honey, and pumpkin. It has some grassy undertones. This brew is medium bodied. Taste is full of spices with just a hint of mint. Nice and smooth aftertaste. A nice pumpkin ale.

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin pours a dark, clear amber with a quickly disappearing tan head. Pumpkin/caramel body, not as chewy as you might expect, with a noticeable alcohol presence. Lots of smoke, cloves and cinnamon in the dry finish. I’m not convinced that pumpkiny beers are best at this strength...but it’s pretty tasty.

Bottle from City Beverage in Winston-Salem. Great graphic on the bottle: a real imperial pumpkin. Awesome. Pours orangish-brown with a nice white head. Aroma is pumpkin pie, straight up, lots of spices. Cinnamon stands out. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, serious pumpkin, clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Very tasty - my normally BMC-drinking friend declared this his favorite beer EVER. Palate smooth and medium-full with average carbonation. Damn good stuff.

This beer is amber in color with a creamy white head that always suggests a big beer to me. The smell is as others have described, pure pumpkin pie with a strong cinnamon and nutmeg aroma. The taste is floral and perfumey with a little mustiness at the end and does not quite taste like pumpkin. This is good but I can’t imagine ever wanting more than one. In fact, it would be best at six ounces so maybe split one with a friend. The spiciness is just very pronounced although the alcohol is well hidden. Twelve ounce bottle pours a clear burnished copper body with orange highlights. Medium tan head is thick and creamy and laces well. Aroma of pie spices-cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and allspice. Taste also highlights the spices. Malty caramel and some real pumpkin flavor easily meld into the spice array. Just a hint of the alcohol. Topnotch effort.

Bottle sample at the Weyerbacher tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 8/28/09. Pours a cloudy copper with a thin tan head. Huge spice in the nose consisting of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, allspice and sweet malt. Malty flavor with a ton of the aforementioned spices. Still, doesn’t finish too terribly sweet. An excellent representation of the style because they spice the holy hell out of it without making it too sweet.
