Commercial Description:
Brewed with Pumpkin and Spices(Cinnamon,Nutmeg,Cardamom,Cloves). This 8.0% ABV pumpkin ale is heartier, spicier, and more caramelly and pumpkiny than its faint brethren! Perfect finisher on a cool autumn night, or match it up with a slice of pumpkin pie and fresh whipped cream. If you don't agree this is the mother of all pumpkin ales, then you just don't like mothers!

In the bottle from Beertopia. Pours dark amber with an ivory head. The aroma is huge to this beer with lots of cardamom, nutmeg and the traditional pumpkin pie spices. The flavor is OK, but does not really deserve the "Imperial" moniker. While in the hot tub, I told Kitschy that this beer would be better if there were more hops. She stole that idea from me.

12oz Bottle: Pours rusty amber w/ a small biege head. Aroma has quite a bit of nutmeg. Basically, surprise, pumpkin pie spices. Flavor is rather disappointing compared to previous years. Very, very spicy w/ just a little pumpkin flavor. Not very well balanced, the spice overwhelms. The finish is quite dry & once again...spicy. Bummer...

Somewhat hazy, rusty amber with fizz and fluffy head. Nutmeg and cardamon jump out in the aroma, zesty and herbaceous. Tastes very spiced, a bit cloying but with a honeyed malt back. Touch of alcohol warmth on the way down.

12oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy glowing auburn orange with a dense fine off-white cream froth 3.5. Aroma is a but peppery, spicy, spices are a bit diluted and somewhat melded together, hard to pick out individually, a bit sour malty. Flavor follows exactly, sharp spicy black pepper upfront, then sourish grains, a bit of pumpkin pie, that is about it, finishing with a little alcohol kick. Nice fluffy medium body just a slight hint of syrupiness, medium sharp even fluffy carbonation. Not as cool as I was expecting, but very drinkable and tasty at 8%.

Pours amber. Nose is cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper and sweet malts. flavor is weak pumpkin pie and big cinnamon spice. Not my bag. Not meaty enough in my opinion.

Straight from the 12oz. bottle, at Juno Beach: Nose of inflamed pumpkin, solid, traditional spice, and perhaps some sharpie pen... is sick. But the overall flavor pales in comparison. Needs more hops for balance, and also for fading the alcohol presence a bit. However, you’re drinking what Weybach wanted- an Imperial. Drinkability: Would pair extremely well with food, but standalone it’s just ok. Rebuy: Next year. #196 on 14112009, DG.

From dmac via trade. Poured a fairly attractive rich copper color that was clear with a solid off-white head that was about one-finger tall with average lacing. The aroma was loaded with clove and cinnamon and light citrus. The flavor was more cinnamon and clove over thin citrus hops. The malt that held it together was hard to find. These pumpkin beers all pretty much taste the same to me. Thin to medium in body.

12oz. Pours brown/red/golden, there’s a fair amount of sediment on the bottom but it doesn’t look like yeast. Aroma is incredibly enticing, the pumpkin/spice aroma here is like the fruity yeast in an ESB. Tastes different but just as good as it smells. The flavor develops from pumpkin/spice into beer with a full hop presence that lingers a bit. Fantastic! Yay beer!

Surprisingly well balanced for an imperial pumpkin. Light caramel creaminess with mostly cinnamon spice. Could have used more pumpkin taste instead of relying on cinnamon. Mildly flavored but highly drinkable. Lightly dry throughout with no taste of alcohol.
