12oz. bottle, with thanks to john_adam2002 for this excellent bonus! Pours a clear dark ruby with a fluffy tan head that lingers, minimal lacing. Aroma is dark fruits, oak and a light sweet bourbon hiding in the background. Flavor is spicy-sweet; there’s more bourbon coming out, along with vanilla, oak, and dark fruits. Well put together and enjoyable.

Bottle. Poured amber with an off-white head. The sweet aroma finds nuts, malts, and hints of spices. The flavor is much the same of the aroma with hints of oak and fruits mixed in. Sweet throughout. Medium to full body. Very enjoyable. (Rating from June ’07)

ABV: 11.1% Calories: estimated at 400 C Volume: 22 fl oz Glass: Snifter Purchased at: West Trenton Wine and Liquors Price: $7.99 Consumed at: home Impression: Beyond a barleywine - this is just like wine. Too much like wine for me, personally. The color is amazing, deep, and dark ruby. There is just a wispy head. The aroma is intoxicating, but the alcohol is very hard to hide. It burns the nostrils. It has a very long, nice aftertaste, and activates all corners of the mouth. It grows quickly on you. It’s strong, but the strength is well crafted. Flavors include raisin, rum, red wine, alcohol, anise, oak, barley. Definitely hard to drink quickly - very much like light shots, and with a strong shock. Chocolate aftertones. Very heavy, thick, cloying, and indulgent. Bold. Aroma: 7 out of 10 Visuals: 5 out of 5 Taste: 7 out of 10 Palate: 5 out of 5 Overall: 17 out of 20. I liked the way it looked, it’s presence, and it’s boldness, but the alcohol content really outweighs any real tasting in this beer, and in a way defeats it.

Bottle shared by footbalm. Pours a bright amber with a medium white head. The aroma is really sweet; some malts and candy. The taste was dominated by a smooth and sweet malt with some oak and chocolates. Pretty good.

Pours a coppery-red with lingering thin eggshell head, little lacing. Nose is intensely oaky, with a perfumy fragrance like turkish delight and bourbon woodenness. Creamy on the palate, starting with a vanilla sweetness before quickly progressing to a warming, alcoholic finish with notes of oak, currants, and a pleasing lingering cough syrup finish. Gives the blithering idiot some needed depth.

Now this is an interesting bottle, shared by Kinz. Unfiltered pre-release, meaning it’s from 2004 before the official release. Cloudy caramel color, no head. Aroma is caramel and butterscotch to an extreme, with a little nuttiness also. Taste very similar to the aroma, but a little fruitier. No alcohol apparent, and no carbonation. This was damned good, and I’m afraid to ever try it again!

Taste in snifter at Oldsmar Tap House. Amber with flat head. Nutty malt brown sugar port aroma. Brown sugar honey port and fruity flavors with medium alcohol finish. Medium-full body and med carbo. Pretty good. Little too much burn.
