Commercial Description:
Insanity, first released November 2004, is Weyerbacher's latest creation in the world of cutting edge beers. Insanity is made by aging our perfectly balanced Blithering Idiot Barleywine in oak bourbon casks. This incredible combination creates a melange of flavors such as malt, dates, oak, vanilla, and bourbon just to name a few.

I purchased this off a recomendation from a friend, and was not upset. I’m usually all about the stouts, but am drinking more and more barleywines. Let me start off by saying, I think this may be the most drinkable 11%+ beer I’ve had. Pours a light brown with plenty of substance floating/suspended in the glass. Tastes very smooth. The bourbon flavor is not as strong as in the heresy. It allows more of the vanilla flavor to come through. Which was very pleasant. I commented several times on how smooth and drinkable this beer was. It is just that smooth. I bought this at a local store and drank it the same night, but believe it was from last years batch, so it was inadvertently aged nicely. For barleywine drinkers and non-barleywine drinkers, I would highly recommend giving this one a chance.

YUM YUM poured a copper color with small head and good lacing. Aroma was of caramel and woodyness. Flavor was burbon grapefruit caramel sweet more the bitter. Good beer for sure.

Very nice. The body’s an amber/orange color with a heap of suspended paricles and is topped with a tan head that lasts none too long. Its has a sweet, alcohol laden aroma blended with toffee, Bourbon, cherries, oak, vanilla, and green raisins. Very smooth drinking, like a fine liquer. Great flavor, the Bourbon mixing evenly with the tastes reflected from the nose, not overpowering as in some Bourbon barrel aged brews. Weyerbacher needs to broaden its distribution to include Chicago.

Wow, certainly better than Blithering Idiot. A ncie amber body with a thin head and no carbonation. Aroma was a wicked mix of oak notes, leather, frut and alcohol. Flavor was simliar although bourbon notes were mild, in the foregound. It was less sweet then BI, which was great, A nice warm alcohol finish.

Bottle. Red, creamy layer. Raisiny, bourbonlike corny and bready sweet nose. Bourbon sweetness on the upstart, raisins, diesel, a bit pine and grass. Full body, oily mouthfeel. I have never been a bourbon fan and that particular note is strong here...

Bomber: Pours a ruby amber, no head with sparse carbonation that accumulates if let alone for a bit. Gentle nose of malt and light oaky bourbon. An appropriate name for todays basement projects....tingle of bourbon on tounge after sweet heavy malts settle and depart. Quite mellow an rounded as compared to the idiot. I prefer this. Dan, Make more...or I will hunt you down.

Cloudy amber, reddish colour with a beige head. Vague roasted malty aroma with notes of some caramel, vanilla and alcohol sweetness along some hoppy pine needles. Malty, toffee and alcohol sweet flavor with a light hoppy, dry and sweet finish.
