Lots of wood and molassas aromas off this murky brown pour with a really nice thick creamy head. Fruity aromas too. Flavor was really nice, more wood, dark and dried fruits, hop finish with quite a bit of alcohol burn. Very tasty. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 31, 2006 Bomber pours a dark rose color with sweet malty fruit aromas on a backbone of alcohol. Thick malty fruit flavors with bourbon and oak. Although i wouldn’t say balanced surpisingly not too sweet and not too much alcohol. As it warms up the alcohol becomes more pronounced and it becomes difficult to swallow but as long as its cellar temp or below, its a barley wine that you can enjoy rather fresh without having to age for a few years. Courtesy of a trade with Nolankowal. Nice smell and color. The sent reminds me of hard candy from when I was a kid. Just the right amount of sweetens and carbonation. The only – for me is that the Barrel aging is not coming though. If I had my choice of this one or a Pilgrims Dole from New Holland, I would go for the dole any day.

Moving on, Weyerbacher inflates the flavor of Blithering Idiot with woody, smoked, and whiskey/bourbon flavors. Absence of foam and a murky brown body. HopBackDoc (395), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of some fruit, whiskey, caramel and vanilla. Let this warm a bit and the flavors really pop while the alcohol warms. Flavor of caramel, malt, whiskeyfinishing with raisin and brown sugar and warming alcohol. Very intoxicating! kkearn (1002), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Fairly full bodied. Oak and vanilla flavors most evident up front, with some hops showing up later to balance thigs out. gnoff (3570), Göteborg, Sweden
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Oct 9, 2006 (Bottle) Lable is very nice! Shady orange color, small white head. Low sweet with a dominant alcohol scent. Some non-stored cheese. Thick mouthfeel. Sweet taste that keeps going and going and... The sweetness is a regular Energizer Beer! (ehr, Bunny...) Smell is also grainy low quality scotch blended whisky, is it the oak character perhaps? Low bitterness. Rather dry. A bit salty and buttery.
