| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 2, 2006 Appearance: This beer pours out a rusty orange/brown with a small tan head. It is cloudy in appearance. Thick and mostly opaque.
Smell: The smell is a malty, sweet fruity (dark fruit) aroma. It also has hints of vanilla. Then it portrays noticeable, but not overpowering alcohol in the nose.
Taste: The taste is malty caramel and sweet dark fruits, like dates. This is a straight forward, very approachable beer. It will likely please most pallets (somewhat middle of the road) because it is subtle and not overly extreme in any direction. Insanity does not sacrifice being interesting to avoid any cloying tastes. Good job, Weyerbacher!
Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Sticky and substantial feeling in your mouth, yet very refreshing.
Drinkability: This is a very easy to drink beer that is unique. The experience for me was like a wine cooler met a bourbon and married in beerland. (How freakin cheesy is that)! Anyway; as a (former) bourbon man, this is a fantastic nightcap substitution. I highly recommend giving it a try.
Hope this is helpful.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 29, 2006 Deep amber in color with a small white head. Aroma is fruity, alcoholic, whiskey, oak and malt. Dark fruits and malt come forth along with an overwhelming whiskey charcater. This beer seems a little hot, I’m sure it would age well though. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 28, 2006 Pour is deep hazed ruby amber with a dense quick tan head...smell is sharp and alcoholic with some dark fruits, but lots of woody alcohol...taste is not nearly as overpowering as the blithering idiot is...sweet plums and prunes still with some complex woody bitter notes...subtle bourbon...finish is quick and slightly bitter... jrob21 (1268), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 26, 2006 Wow, I haven’t had one of these in a while. Barley Wines that is. The bourbon barrell ageing is subtle and nice. Pours cloudy amber color with small tan head. Purple fruit, plum, and cherry aroma. Bourbon and alcohol in the taste are dominant. Slight malty mouth feel. Complex and intense. tever (15), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 24, 2006 12 oz bottle dated 01/05. Pours dark amber with a light tan head. Didn’t realize this was bourbon barrel aged until I caught a whiff of the aromas, then wow! Scents of medium strong bourbon and fruits filled my nose. Flavors of sweet malts with whiskey aftertones, alcohol, plums, a bit of wood maybe, some bitterness. Very complex. The alchohol and bourbon flavors dominate but I thought it was done nicely. Goes down smooth and would be wonderful on a cold winters night. Nothing like I’ve ever tried before. Thanks to footbalm for the bottle! aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 22, 2006 Little to no head, brandy nose: bourbon sweety taste, sweet finish that caramelizes with warming. I little too sweet for bourbon casting, nice drink but a disappointment too. FROTHINGSLOSH (2010), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 10, 2006 Updated: Aug 27, 2007I have had great enjoyment from this line of oak aged beers from Weyerbacher. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very cloudy - almost murky- chestnut color with lots of floaters and a small khaki head. The aroma is strong grapefruit with undertones of caramel and raisin. The flavor is strong and biting grapefruity hops with a sweet malty middle and a moderately strong woody finish. Elements of caramel come out as it warms. The mouthfeel is fairly thick. There is a bit of an alcohol burn.
