Poured clear deep copper with an average lasting straw head. Aroma of oak, vanilla, bourbon, alcohol and sweet malt. Tastes of oaky sweet bourbon, alcohol burn, decent but a little thin - a real ear-warmer - sweet. Average body, quick finish, alcoholic , woody, smooth. Really nice, I think I may like the regular Blithering Idiot more. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA

Aroma is dominated by oak and vanilla. Medium / full bodied with moderate carbonation. Starts with a sweet maltiness that leaves fairly quickly due to a vanilla streak that takes over and goes to the finish. The finish also has oak and alcohol. This was an interesting beer, but has more of an alcohol burn than I like. WISEGUY572 (1251), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 17, 2006 Barleywine is just not my thing and this one surely is not going to change my mind. Hazy orange with a small head. Nose of bubble gum, alcohol, and cherries. Taste of bubble gum, alcoho, Bourbon whiskeyl, sweet fruit (cherries?), and wood. Intense, but not complex ... indeed, because the cask is so overpowering, even less complex than most barleywines. And who needs this much alcohol? I mean, I just don’t like this style, and I just don’t like most of the stuff from Weyerbacher, and I surely don’t like this beer. But ... if you like underhopped alcohol hiding behind oak, you might love it. For me it’s expensive drain pour. I’d rather drink an honest Iron City. A cheap drunk does not make this a good beer, and surely not a 93% beer. By that measure, Ripple would be a grand cru wine. Psylocke (91), st-constant, Quebec, Canada

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 13, 2006 I was a bit intimidated from the strong aroma, especially since it is 11.1% alcohol. It was a nice amber appearance. The flavor was extremely smooth with a nice hint of oak and vanilla from the barrels. My favorite from Weyerbacher. Papsoe (15109), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Malty, caramelish nose. Full-bodied with lots of oak and caramel. Well balanced, hoppy finish. Lovely. 220406 YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2006 Weyerbacher has some impressive stuff. This poured out a hazy, sunset red/orange with a minimal beige head. Nose is greeted by caramel, bourbon, vanilla, oak, coconut. Full and creamy body with a smooth feel. The flavor held hints of sweetness and bourbon burn with some late bitterness. Quite good. jason (1627), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA

Very strong aroma, very strong. Almost doesn’t smell like an ale but liqour (since it was aged in J.D. Barrels for 6-12 months.)
Apearance is very crimson looking and thin head that fades. Flavor is very potent and caramel tasting (almost like a clark bar but w/o the choc.) A very good ale for after dinner on the coldest of days. I have some more bottles that I can’t wait to age. Cheers!
