Pours a medium amber color with a medium/smallish head and a small amount of bubbly lacing. Aroma is rich and full of roasted caramel tones and vanilla creating a very nice, neat nose (slight banana nut hints as well). Flavor is WOW, like a caramel mocha or latte from coffee bean (slight toffee hints in the flavor as well). Rich and smooth like caramel butter with a slight hint of alcohol in the aftertaste. I found it’s a great substitute for water when making tacos. illinismitty (1801), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 26, 2006 Bottle. pours murky reddish brown. No head. Nice aroma of brown sugar, vanilla, dried fruit, and a wisp of bourbon. Flavor is a tad warming at the start, but is nicely balanced. The oak, sugary sweetness, malt, and hoppiness do not fight each other on the palate. The flavor and texture need to be increased a bit to make this a great beer.Still enjoyable, and I would definitely drink again. I hope Weyerbacher continues to brew more of these high gravity goodies (ie Heresy, Old Heathen). xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA

It smeels great - like a bunch of fruits, vegetables and flowers all crushed up, definitely some dates, raisins, bu also a hint of lavender, garden, and strong alcohol malt. Holy shoot! This is definitely a blithering idiot taken to the next level!! The vanilla flavor is very detectable and the beer has a very creamy. There’s a creamy, milky flavor note in there too. The alcohol and fruits are subdued and the cask flavor takes over, in my bottle at least, but as a fan of vanilla, a hint of caramel, and creamy smoothness, I really enjoy this a lot. oh6gdx (9104), Vasa, Finland
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 24, 2006 Bottled. Brownish red, a bit hazy, colour, beige small head. Plummy and sugary aroma with hints of vanilla. Quite the same in flavour, except that alcohol shows up more in the flavour than nose. Very wellbalanced. TBone (6850), Pori, Finland

Cherry-red, a bit muddy color. Small white head (just some foam). Tobacco, vanilla and oak in the nose. Sweet, liquerish palate with strong taste of vanilla. In the finish a bit hoppy and alcoholic. porterdude (170), Bellingham, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 17, 2006 Bottle. Pourd a deep copper color with a paper thin white head. A quick sniff of this beer yields a sweet sugary bourbon aroma. Already my mouth was watering. Initial sip was a little hot from the Bourbon. this gave way to a big bodied malty sweet barly wine. Good flavors of vinous malts and hops. The balance of bourbon to beer was better achieved in this beer compared to Impy Stout. NJDevilz69 (22), Absecon, New Jersey, USA

I get alot of toffe and nut on the nose, also a strong whiskey aroma. Very nutty flavor, strong alcohol taste as well. Nice bitter finish, all in all I like this barleywine. Something different from the norm. Sampled from a 750ml size bottle
