Bottle. Mahogony beer with a light tan head. Malt and caramel aroma. Malt flavor with light dark fruit, light yeast, and light oak. Bourbon more in background. Medium bodied. Caramel and a light nuttiness lingers with light dark fruits and a bit of yeastiness. Some alcohol present. Nice complexity.

2008 Bottle - Thanks phhd! - Pours a murky brown with a small but lasting off white head...aroma is massively caramel malt and barrel, dried cherries and bourbon vanilla...flavour follows the same lines, huge oak presence, and the alcohol is quite noticeable as well, but doesn’t detract too much...some more hop presence would put this beer on a pedestal...

Darker copper orange color; velvety medium beige head. Rich bourbony aroma; sweet, cherry, cranberry, vanilla, oak. Flavor - upfront bourbon; stiff and moderately bitter woodsy notes. Slight tang from all the oak. Medium carbonation. Rather smooth for such a big beer. So far, seems to be a step up from the Blithering Idiot, which was already pretty good to begin with. Could however stand some more finesse; there’s always appeal to the tried and true approach of taking a big BW and sticking it in a bourbon barrel. Gets better as it warms up and you become more inebriated.

Bottle from LIquor Depot (Tampa, FL). Pours a clear reddish amber color with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of vanilla, cream, wood, caramel, booze, some hints of dark fruits and coconut. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, sweet candy sugar, ripe dark fruit, and hints of wood and toffee. Generally medium to full body with a slightly boozy finish.

bomber - thanks to gottalottaibu for this trade a year ago; pours amber with faint haze and trace white head to the edges; nose is straight booze, and i mean straight; wow, surprising for a 1.5+ year old brew; texture is flat, rich and smooth; lemons, sugar, stale fruit, oak; drinks rich, strong and mildly dry finish; nose aside, a very nice brew

From a bottle poured dark amber with a fair amount of head. Strong malty flavor with hints of alcohol burn and a lasting finish.

Pours a dark reddish amber color with a small tan head that fades quickly. The aroma is complex and shows hints of caramel, dark fruits, bourbon, vanilla, and raisins. The flavor followed with sweet theme of the aroma with caramel, candy sugar, bourbon kissed strawberries, and some oaky vanilla. The alcohol is quite noticeable on the way down. Medium bodied and smooth, but a touch syrupy on the palate. Finishes long and sweet with a good dose of warming from the alcohol. Pretty good barrel aged barleywine.
