Commercial Description:
Formerly Weyerbacher Belgian Triple.
At Weyerbacher we've recreated a Belgian Trippel without limitation. We use premium Pilsener malts, candi-sugar, and yeast strains- all imported from Belgium. To be true to the style, our Trippel is bottle conditioned. This means we add a bit of candi-sugar and yeast just prior to bottling. This imparts a special effervescence to the beer, a creamier carbonation, and also extends the shelf life. The on-going fermentation inside the bottle will change the character of the beer as it ages, and you'll find it becomes dryer with age. You may want to lay down a few bottles for future evaluation. We suggest storing at cellar temperatures -around 55 degrees F- and away from light.

Pours a golden color with an orange tint. A nice thick foamy white head, but it dissipated very quickly. Nose of clove, banana, licorice, pears and some yeast. Taste is good caramel malt with some yeasty apple flavor. Some other fruit as well, but it is very mellow. Finishes a with a little bit of a bitter taste, but the warming alcohol is what you really get. Medium bodied beer.

About a 1 year old bottle from my cellar. I really like this brewery, one of my favorites. This is a good beer but probably deserves the style points it has because it’s not really a good example of a Tripel. Too much spices and not enough yeast. Pours a nice cloudy,golden-orange with loads of fine particles. Aroma is very fruity with apples, grapes and berries. Subtle yeast characteristics. That’s the problem with this beer. It’s not as complex as I’d like it to be, but it is pretty tasty. Good carbonation, can’t taste the alcohol.

Pours a off golden yellow that is cloudy with decent hear retention but no lacing at all. The smell is complex but definitely Belgian sweet. Banana and cloves comes to mind. Some phenol smells to tell you that you that it cares. The taste is much sweeter then typical Triples, more along the lines of a Strong Golden Ale. A big fizzy flavor mixes with the sweet candi to give it almost a tart quality to it. Like eating a granny apple. A real citrus reminisce mixes with spices of coriander and strong pepper. As the beer warms the spices comes out more and balances the zing flavor down. The high alcohol taste is noticeable but not bad. I mixes well with the tart taste.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear golden yellow with a glowing orange hue. Nose was fairly sweet with some banana, citrus and yeasty aromas. I did not taste the 9.3 in this beer, hidden very well. An ok beer, not my favorite from Weyerbacher.

Bottle. Pours, golden, the color of apple juice, with a medium white head, quickly dispersing into a very thin look. Small bits of floaties, and very carbonated. Aroma is apple juice, and some--but very little--yeast. Flavor is apple juice, very thin, yeastiness more in flavor, a good bit of candi-sugar. I don’t really taste the alcohol, and the flavor seems very thin to me. Does it taste better with age??

12oz Bottle. Banana paste, apple core, and fuming phenols. Grainy and alcoholic. A nip too medicinal. Pours in a chunky pale gold. The yeast kicked up really easily in this bottle. Rim of white and lots of carb. Hot and phenolic. One faced. Lightly sweet and harsh. The yeast profile dominates this beer too much. Actually, the carb is a bit too low and that lets some lemon sugars lie too heavy on the palate. Burning fumes throughout. Sickly. Not a good version. Flash in the pan of bread-like hops on th smack. I have got to stop buying Weyerbacher.
