Commercial Description:
Formerly Weyerbacher Belgian Triple.
At Weyerbacher we've recreated a Belgian Trippel without limitation. We use premium Pilsener malts, candi-sugar, and yeast strains- all imported from Belgium. To be true to the style, our Trippel is bottle conditioned. This means we add a bit of candi-sugar and yeast just prior to bottling. This imparts a special effervescence to the beer, a creamier carbonation, and also extends the shelf life. The on-going fermentation inside the bottle will change the character of the beer as it ages, and you'll find it becomes dryer with age. You may want to lay down a few bottles for future evaluation. We suggest storing at cellar temperatures -around 55 degrees F- and away from light.

A solid abbey triple. The carbonation was a bit weak but didn’t effect the flavor at all. Poured a cloudy orange/yellow. Great fruit and sweet candy flavors. A lot of spice characteristics on the finish. The alcohol is hidden altogether. Delicious.

Bottle. A lightly hazy orange/amber with a large but quickly dissipating head. Aroma of pears, cloves, bananas. A bit of spice in the taste. Lively carbonation. Alcohol is fairly well hidden. Not at all bad

Bottle from New Beer Distributors in NY. Pours a hazy dark golden color. Minimal head disipates quickly. The aroma seems headed in the right direction but drops off. Flavor is okay. This beer has a light mouthfeel and maybe that goes with it’s carbonation but it’s weak compared with other Belgian styles.

Bottle. Pour was clear golden with little head. Alot of carbonation. Aroma of yeast. Body was thin and flavor was thin, kind of watery with little flavor.

12 oz bottle

This was a bonus in a recent trade. Thanks to whomever sent it (I really should start keeping better track of who sent what). It was a nice example of a Belgian, though once again a typical American interpretation. There are only a few brewers nationwide I’ve found who have nailed Belgians - Jolly Pumpkin, Ale Asylum (so far) and Pizza Port. This falls in between those and the bad (Founders Bad Habit).

Aroma / Appearance - Pineapple, cotton candy, caramel dipped apples and butterscotch highlight a very sweet nose. The pour resulted in very little head. The body was a bronze color with very active carbonation. I didn’t pour it into my glass but there was plenty of dead yeast in the bottle to indicate this might cellar well.

Flavor / Palate - Honey, pepper and white bread highlight a carbonated, slightly bitter first impression. Soon after comes the typical hotness I have learned to accept from Weyerbacher beers. Once it passed a nice bouquet of cream soda and vanilla was uncovered. The finish reminded me of fresh orange peels and bittersweet bakers chocolate. While not very complex this was relatively easy to drink. It is among the better tripel interpretations I have had from an American brewer.

Poured a clear golden color with a very generous initial head, below average retention, decent but not great lacing. The aroma was the highlight, bananas, apples, spices, light vanilla. The flavor was a bit sloppy, apples, bananas, apricots, peaches, finishing with a spicey (multiple?) touch. Sweet but finishes with a dry, somewhat acidic? mouthfeel. Wasn’t as big a mess as others have implied, but it wasn’t a great example of a tripel (ie. definitely drinkable).

My first abbey trippel. Pours like a lght brown yellow wheat beer. Watch out! A little scary because the alky content is well hidden and its smooth. Above average carbonation for an alchohol content of this range. A teeny bitter linger on the finish.

This bottled brew from a rating party poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that was and left behind a transparent softly carbonated yellow-white colored body and a poor lacing. The aroma was malty mild hop banana and fruity. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of fruity mildly vinous and floral. A decent one that I would consider buying again.
