Commercial Description:
Formerly Weyerbacher Belgian Triple.
At Weyerbacher we've recreated a Belgian Trippel without limitation. We use premium Pilsener malts, candi-sugar, and yeast strains- all imported from Belgium. To be true to the style, our Trippel is bottle conditioned. This means we add a bit of candi-sugar and yeast just prior to bottling. This imparts a special effervescence to the beer, a creamier carbonation, and also extends the shelf life. The on-going fermentation inside the bottle will change the character of the beer as it ages, and you'll find it becomes dryer with age. You may want to lay down a few bottles for future evaluation. We suggest storing at cellar temperatures -around 55 degrees F- and away from light.

Bottle. My guess is that it’s a 2004 bottle. For a bottle conditioned beer, this is pretty clear. It does have a decent head to begin, but it fades to a Budweiser looking collection of bubbles after a few minutes. Nice aroma. Alcoholic banana is the most noticeable, but there’s an authentic Belgian yeast in the nose as well as some muted, peppery spices. Very dry and astringent in the mouth. VERY dry and astringent. Almost vodka like. Banana, citrus and yeast also show up, but the vodka kicks their asses. Maybe my tastebuds are going numb, but it smoothes out a tad as it warms, and gains a small sweetness. Still, too alcoholic for me. At least the monks on the label are having a good time ... well, except for that poor brother, puking in the fireplace. Ah, good times at the monastery.

Sampled at the JimMack Invitational ’06. 2001 bottle. clear golden color with an off-white head. flavor is slightly dry, some banana and some alcohol heat present. the sweet malt is there but offset by the alcohol.

While I generally dig Weyerbacher products, I kind of feel they dropped the ball on their tripel. Nice amber-yellow pour with a modest head, the aroma and the initial taste are too one-dimensional, heavy on the sours. Not bad but not great.

Bottle. Pours slightly misty yellow honey, with off-white head that disappears quickly. Nose of lime, yellow apples, and yeast. Sweet alcohol flavors, like a citrus-flavored vodka, with warmer banana, lemon, and light spice notes. Some sourness on the tongue during the warming finish. Creamy carbonation makes for nice mouthfeel, and flavors are ok, but sourness is distracting at the end - much like their Quad.

12 oz bottle. Clear golden color with thin white head. Nice estery, yeasty aroma and flavor. Crisp and spicy with a splash of alcohol at the end. Very good Belgian.

12oz bottle- Has an aroma of yeast and bubblegum. Pours a golden haze with a small ring left. I may have an aged bottle the taste is mainly sour. Not very pleasant. Overall tastes more lambicy than a Tripel.

Poured a golden raisin color with a cloudy body leaving a thick white head that disappears but leaves a small lace. The aroma is sweet, yeasty and earthy. The flavor starts fruity on the palate, sweet ripened grapes, banana, mango, and a slight alcohal presence but @ 9% it is very faint. The finish is smooth and coats the throat, very complex and delicious. This is a beer I will go back to again.

The absolute sweetest tripel I have ever had. 12 oz. bottle: the aroma was overwhelmingly overripe friut and bubble gum. The appearence was gold with a slighlty cloudy hue. looks even a little bit thin as it pours. The flavor is really sweet, bubble gum, and banana with small (very small hints) of the yeast. the flavor was of the bubble gum and over rippened fruit, banana mostly. Too thin of palate. Not a good example of style.
