Commercial Description:
Our latest creation, MUSE, is a Farmhouse Ale with a distinctive Weyerbacher signature. Farmhouse Ales, by tradition, were used as restoratives for workers during the warmer months under the hot midday sun. Typically made with barley, sometimes wheat and oats as well, a Farmhouse Ale could be light golden to amber in color, but always with a dry, slightly tart finish, thus being a great thirst quencher.
Weyerbacher MUSE is light amber in color, brewed with barley and a healthy dose of raw wheat and raw oats as per tradition, to give it a mouthfeel that’s both silky and light at the same time. The wheat and oats add a bit of cloudiness to the beer as well, so don’t be afraid, sometimes cloudy is good! A very special Belgian yeast strain was used to ferment this particular brew, and it was done at downright “hot” temperatures, 78 F, in order for the yeast to develop its spicy profile that is expected for a Farmhouse Ale. No spices were added to this brew, its all from the yeast.
MUSE is hopped with Styrian Goldings for bitter, and Saaz for aroma, both just adding even more to the dryness of the brew. Putting it all together, you have a slightly spicy palate, with pleasant aromas and very dry, mildly bitter finish. At 6.2%, you’ll want another one so you can ponder this intriguing taste profile, and you may find yourself wondering why you haven’t explored Farmhouse Ales before!

Pours a two finger white head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Cloudy amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Sour apple nose. Flavor is tart/sour apple cider. Saisons are not my favorite but this one is tolerable. $5.10 for a 22oz bottle from Tully’s Beer and Wine Wells, ME.

Bottle. Pours a dark hazy orange body with a medium-sized creamy white head. Smells of apple, pepper, tangerine, and wet cardboard. The flavour is a bit better and actually quite enjoyed. Spicy and somewhat chewy. Yeasty fruits with a burnt toast character.

Bottle and served in pint glass: Hazy golden hue with a fading frothy head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of coriander and yeasty earthy esters, grassy and herbal hops, wheat and grain and a hint of lactic funk. The taste is pretty much straight forward with moderate herbal bitterness over layers of wheat and biscuity malt. There is indeed a strange sourness to this beer but it is welcome actually and does add a bit of depth. The finish has a bit of hop spice and woodiness. I have no idea where people get band-aid from the beer. The mouth feel is sprite and finished a tad chalky. All in a good brew but nothing news worthy.

This Saison had a unique taste to it. It poured a light copper color with a white head. No lacing. Hints of sour fruits, yeast, spices, and malts. Finished with a overwhelming carbonation taste.

Props to Santa.
The aroma has mostly an oatcake, wheat aroma that is infused with the hearty notes those filling grains will impart. There is a hint of sweetness that is clean and seems to lack any of the normal funk/spice notes of a saison.
The body of this beer is a murky gold with a diminishing finger sized white head.
The first sip is soft and uninteresting, but the low key grain notes (which mostly encompass the flavor) are strangely appealing in a rustic way. Towards the back end I do get some sweet notes that lean towards vanilla or honey infused sweet bread. Some extremely muted spice notes in the finish beg for amplification. This isn’t a bad beer, but it does come across as un-perfected. In spire of that I find I like the beer on the whole and it is something I’d be happy to session.
