Commercial Description:
Our latest creation, MUSE, is a Farmhouse Ale with a distinctive Weyerbacher signature. Farmhouse Ales, by tradition, were used as restoratives for workers during the warmer months under the hot midday sun. Typically made with barley, sometimes wheat and oats as well, a Farmhouse Ale could be light golden to amber in color, but always with a dry, slightly tart finish, thus being a great thirst quencher.
Weyerbacher MUSE is light amber in color, brewed with barley and a healthy dose of raw wheat and raw oats as per tradition, to give it a mouthfeel that’s both silky and light at the same time. The wheat and oats add a bit of cloudiness to the beer as well, so don’t be afraid, sometimes cloudy is good! A very special Belgian yeast strain was used to ferment this particular brew, and it was done at downright “hot” temperatures, 78 F, in order for the yeast to develop its spicy profile that is expected for a Farmhouse Ale. No spices were added to this brew, its all from the yeast.
MUSE is hopped with Styrian Goldings for bitter, and Saaz for aroma, both just adding even more to the dryness of the brew. Putting it all together, you have a slightly spicy palate, with pleasant aromas and very dry, mildly bitter finish. At 6.2%, you’ll want another one so you can ponder this intriguing taste profile, and you may find yourself wondering why you haven’t explored Farmhouse Ales before!

Nice and refreshing, which seems to have come at the cost of some complexity. Still, the flavors are true to the style, with some hay and grains flavors along with a little spice, but presented in a way that isn’t overpowering.

Bottle from Immy. Pour was a cloudy copper and brown with a somewhat fizzy, but ample off-white head. Decent lacing. The aroma was yeast, butterscotch and some spice (from the saaz hops I suppose). The flavor was yeast, spice and the wheat and oats are noted only briefly before a tart fruit flavor that was lemon and some cherry took over. The sour fruits lingered over a fairly crisp hop finish. Lots of carbonation. A nice alternative to the standard summer deluge of Hefeweizens, Kolsch et al. Thanks Tim!

Pours a hazy yellow/orange with a foamy off-white head. Aroma is spicy. Taste is lemony and spicy. The spices are just too much for me. I really didn’t enjoy this beer. This is the first saison I’ve had, so I’ll have to try another to see if it’s just Muse or the style that I don’t really like.

22 oz Bomber-Pours a cloudy orange color w/a moderate white head & strong lacing which lasted thru the brew. Nice looking brew, but the taste doesn’t stand up to the appearence. Solid brew, but not spectacular; kind of wanders all over the place w/traces of corn/grain, spice, & citrus. Reminds you somewhat of a wheat but with a little more omph, a little bit more of a bitter finish, & not necessarily in a good way. Beer seems to be a little lost to me, like they couldn’t really decide what they were trying to do with this brew. Could be really good with a little more of a defined style. Sweet finish.

Interesting. Medium hazy orange with a nice head. Initial aroma is primarily grain with a hint of yeast and spice. Initial flavor is grain, a hint of coriander, and some faint musty sweat. As it warms, more malt notes make themselves known with some light caramel, and some floral hops show up. Alcohol once it warms is unfortunately a bit disjointed. When cool, quite refreshing and enjoyable.

pours a orange copper in color with lively carbination and a fluffy one finger head. smell is yeasts, sweet flowers, honey, and wheats. taste is flowers and yeasts, very refreshing, has a slight bitterness at the end but overall is very good. the beer has a certain cloudiness and has a thicker feel than some farmhouse styles.

Nice orange pour into an Oberon pint glass, this one begins with some promise. A very slight hint of spice that suggests a saison-like complexity - but it’s never quite realized, to my tastebuds. A slight tartness mixes in with the peppery bite to generate an impression of what is basically a slightly more potent witbier. Not bad, I suppose, but really not much that’s memorable. A middling effort.
