Commercial Description:
Our latest creation, MUSE, is a Farmhouse Ale with a distinctive Weyerbacher signature. Farmhouse Ales, by tradition, were used as restoratives for workers during the warmer months under the hot midday sun. Typically made with barley, sometimes wheat and oats as well, a Farmhouse Ale could be light golden to amber in color, but always with a dry, slightly tart finish, thus being a great thirst quencher.
Weyerbacher MUSE is light amber in color, brewed with barley and a healthy dose of raw wheat and raw oats as per tradition, to give it a mouthfeel that’s both silky and light at the same time. The wheat and oats add a bit of cloudiness to the beer as well, so don’t be afraid, sometimes cloudy is good! A very special Belgian yeast strain was used to ferment this particular brew, and it was done at downright “hot” temperatures, 78 F, in order for the yeast to develop its spicy profile that is expected for a Farmhouse Ale. No spices were added to this brew, its all from the yeast.
MUSE is hopped with Styrian Goldings for bitter, and Saaz for aroma, both just adding even more to the dryness of the brew. Putting it all together, you have a slightly spicy palate, with pleasant aromas and very dry, mildly bitter finish. At 6.2%, you’ll want another one so you can ponder this intriguing taste profile, and you may find yourself wondering why you haven’t explored Farmhouse Ales before!

Bottle from doclock. Thanks! Pour is hazy dark orange with a small white head that sticks. Very nice lacing that refuses to fade. A very nice beer to look at. Unfortunately, appearence isn’t everything. Obey your thirst. My thirst quickly told me upon consuming some of this beverage that I was no longer thirsty for this. Nose is all over the place with some spices, white wine, sour grapes, and dirty hops. Flavor is totally off--slightly sweet, slightly sour (but not in a good way) with a slightly nutty finish.

A flop. What happened here. Not good. What in the hell was Weyerbacher thinking. This is something i would expect from AB. Sub par brew from a very good brewer.

Pint bottle. (Looks bigger.) The colour puts me in mind of an orange creamsicle. With a good head. The aroma is distinctive; sweet, spicy (cloves), herbal, spicy, medicinal, banana. The taste is different as well - kinda fruity sweet, herbal, slightly sour, and there’s even something funky/skunky in there. Some hop bitterness at the end. The alcohol is well hidden. Intriguing indeed. I don’t think I’ve tried a Saison before. I’ll have to try to find this one again.

Pours deep cloudy amber into a tulip. Bright white head quickly subsides to skim surface. Sour off-mung aromas. Unfortunate off-flavors, sour tingly. Dry, lasting pepper finish.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a murky rust color with a big antique white head. The aroma is musty with some citrusy tanginess to it. Soft, creamy mouthfeel. Some spiciness, funky herbal qualities and wheatiness throughout. Finishes just a bit dry with some bitterness. Bland for the style.

A delicious saison from my home state. Pour was a cloudy and murky orange with a thin white ring for a head. Aroma was like a wet blanket with a bit of hops. Taste was funky and musty with some nut and yeast in there. The nice hint of hops in the aftertaste make this different than the saisons I’ve tried. Nice!

Bottle. Pours a hazy orangey gold with a fairly large off-white head. Nose is rising bread dough. Flavor continues with the yeast and and lightly sour notes. Not as funky as other saisons I have tried, but very nice smooth mouthfeel. This was good, not great, but certainly decent for the style but doI prefer more of those farmhouse tones typical of these ales.

This stuff was interesting pours out a murky orange color with a lasting white head. Smell is funk to the max, man this stuff smells almost spoiled and sweaty. Taste is actually pretty sweet compared to the funk that the nose gives you. A little spice, a little banana flavor. Interesting take on a saison, didn’t really care for it but its not too bad. I will say I probably won’t have this again.
