Commercial Description:
Our latest creation, MUSE, is a Farmhouse Ale with a distinctive Weyerbacher signature. Farmhouse Ales, by tradition, were used as restoratives for workers during the warmer months under the hot midday sun. Typically made with barley, sometimes wheat and oats as well, a Farmhouse Ale could be light golden to amber in color, but always with a dry, slightly tart finish, thus being a great thirst quencher.
Weyerbacher MUSE is light amber in color, brewed with barley and a healthy dose of raw wheat and raw oats as per tradition, to give it a mouthfeel that’s both silky and light at the same time. The wheat and oats add a bit of cloudiness to the beer as well, so don’t be afraid, sometimes cloudy is good! A very special Belgian yeast strain was used to ferment this particular brew, and it was done at downright “hot” temperatures, 78 F, in order for the yeast to develop its spicy profile that is expected for a Farmhouse Ale. No spices were added to this brew, its all from the yeast.
MUSE is hopped with Styrian Goldings for bitter, and Saaz for aroma, both just adding even more to the dryness of the brew. Putting it all together, you have a slightly spicy palate, with pleasant aromas and very dry, mildly bitter finish. At 6.2%, you’ll want another one so you can ponder this intriguing taste profile, and you may find yourself wondering why you haven’t explored Farmhouse Ales before!

Ho hum poured an light amber color with big bubbly head. Aroma was very wheaty some spices and less funk then it expected. Flavor had plenty of wheat some spices even some grass but that could just be funk. Okay jsut didn’t do it for me.

THOUGHTS: This is a first for me — giving a Weyerbacher beer a bad rating. A very different direction for Werebacher. It didn’t taste that bad bud the aroma was awful. I almost wanted to hold my nose to drink it. The aroma is also evident in the flavor, but is underlying. A fruity flavor, that if not for that nasy underlying flavor it would be a great tasting beer. It did get about 100 times better as it warmed but 100 times 0 is still 0. I wouldn’t recommend this to other Wyerbacher fans. I’m not to familiar with saisons, so maybe this is something saison fans would love, but I cant see why. I might try it again if I have a summer cold because it my nose were clogged and I couldn’t smell that awful aroma it would be an OK beer. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, dark yellow with a average to large, sudsy, white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was harsh sweat, barnyard, chees and earhy yeasts and quite possibly sweaty crotch. The initial flavor was light to moderate sweetness, moderate acicity and light bitterness and sourness, while the finish was moderately sweet and bitter and moderately to heavily acidic and sour with a long duration. The body was light to medium and somewhat dry with lively carbonation and a metallic chalky and lightly astringent finish.

RBSG 07. I really like saisons, but this one is not a good beer. It has a bad chemical aroma, more chemicals in the flavor, and very light spice. Thin, light body.

This is an ok beer. Not the best from Weyerbacher. A good aroma, nice color. The taste was ok, not the best. My first Saison, I hope others are better then this one.

12oz bottle consumed 21/6/07. Pours a hazy honey color with stark white foam. Smells like a dirty ass gym locker sprayed with coriander scented perfume, and not in a good way. Taste is a smack to the palate of coriander soaked in under-attenuated witbier. Way too thick in the mouthfeel. I’m not buying the whole "no spices were added to this brew" statement, this smacks of someone tossing in a handfull (or 2) of coriander because "all Belgian beers are spiced". If I’m wrong, well then maybe you should not have used a Witbier yeast to make a "Farmhouse" ale.

12oz bottle, no date from DocLock, thanks! Pours a clear honey golden with a one finger yellowish white head, fair retention. Aroma of dirt, white pepper, a fair amount of fruity yeast (lemon rinds come to mind), sweat, a bit of grass. Flavor sucked--unfittingly bitter and grassy, dirt with some alcohol and tinge of lemon candy and a dry finish. Moderate carbonation with a light to medium body. Kinda fell apart after the aroma.

Orange and amber in color with a little off white head. Spicy malty aroma with some yeasty notes. Light grassy hop character. Malty and yeasty flavor. Spicy clove notes. Finish is peppery. Medium bodied. Ok.
