Commercial Description:
Our latest creation, MUSE, is a Farmhouse Ale with a distinctive Weyerbacher signature. Farmhouse Ales, by tradition, were used as restoratives for workers during the warmer months under the hot midday sun. Typically made with barley, sometimes wheat and oats as well, a Farmhouse Ale could be light golden to amber in color, but always with a dry, slightly tart finish, thus being a great thirst quencher.
Weyerbacher MUSE is light amber in color, brewed with barley and a healthy dose of raw wheat and raw oats as per tradition, to give it a mouthfeel that’s both silky and light at the same time. The wheat and oats add a bit of cloudiness to the beer as well, so don’t be afraid, sometimes cloudy is good! A very special Belgian yeast strain was used to ferment this particular brew, and it was done at downright “hot” temperatures, 78 F, in order for the yeast to develop its spicy profile that is expected for a Farmhouse Ale. No spices were added to this brew, its all from the yeast.
MUSE is hopped with Styrian Goldings for bitter, and Saaz for aroma, both just adding even more to the dryness of the brew. Putting it all together, you have a slightly spicy palate, with pleasant aromas and very dry, mildly bitter finish. At 6.2%, you’ll want another one so you can ponder this intriguing taste profile, and you may find yourself wondering why you haven’t explored Farmhouse Ales before!

Poured an orange-tinted amber color with a decent initial head, large bubbles/foam, not thick and fluffy, though, lacing ok. The aroma was cloves, wheat, a little farmhouse funk. Flavor was wheaty farmhouse funk, some undescript spices, strong pepper finish, slight grass underneath. Some degree of acidity and astringency in the aftertaste that detracted from where this beer was going. Mouthfeel light, acidic.

Pours a murky, deep yellow, almost amber color. Aroma reminds me of opening a box of Quaker oats and inhaling. Not neccesarily a bad thing, just not my favorite in beer. Seems to be slight amounts of citrus and some spice, I get pepper for some reason. Flavor is light and fairly one dimensional, but the finish is strong. Decent.

22oz bomber from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Murky orange-red body with virtually no head. Citrusy-piney hops dominate the aroma with hints of caramel malt. Citrusy-piney hops are prominent in the flavor too, with citrus and husky graininess playing a role too. Flavors I’d usually associate with the style fade into the background. Somewhat aqueous in the mouthfeel, but still on the lighter side of medium bodied. An okay beer, but reminds me more of an APA than a saison...

Oh god this was a horrid creation of a beer. It smells like sweaty undies, band aids, mold, and condoms. There is some plastic nastiness in there. A murky yellowish orange color with a soapy head. Some citrus exists with some strange funk and more plastic flavor. This beer is just off from beginning to end. The only farmhouse aspect I gather is that the goat on the bottle took a dump in the beer.

Bottled. Beer is light murky orange-brown colored with a small, frothy, beige, diminishing, mostly lasting head.
Malty with light notes of biscuit, toasted grain; Hoppy with a moderate note of pot-infused rosemary-like herbal; Yeasty with a light note of basement; Light note of dried orange zest.
The flavor is moderately sweet, light/moderately acidic, lightly/moderately bitter with a long, moderately bitter, lightly acidic and sweet finish. More pot notes in the retros.
The body is medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively.
Curious.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy dark yellow, unfiltered. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), moderately yeast (dough, basement, cobwebs), with notes of pepper, clove, plastic, sour urine. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The sad part here is that there seems to be potential...it has its heart in the right place and is going in the right direction, but dang it, there are some unwholesome odors and an off aftertaste that bring it all down. It’s not a total wash; these aspects are not in the forefront (well, at least until it warms up), but they are still hard to ignore.

Pours a cloudy yellow color with a healthy white head. Aroma of yeast, barley and some pine. Smooth taste of yeast, wheat, barley. A little bitter on the back end. Overall, a wonderful summer beer. A great reward after mowing the lawn in the summer sun.

Yeast and grain aroma. Cloudy orange color with a small white head. Starts off yeasty and finishes with moderately bitter hops.
