Commercial Description:
Our latest creation, MUSE, is a Farmhouse Ale with a distinctive Weyerbacher signature. Farmhouse Ales, by tradition, were used as restoratives for workers during the warmer months under the hot midday sun. Typically made with barley, sometimes wheat and oats as well, a Farmhouse Ale could be light golden to amber in color, but always with a dry, slightly tart finish, thus being a great thirst quencher.
Weyerbacher MUSE is light amber in color, brewed with barley and a healthy dose of raw wheat and raw oats as per tradition, to give it a mouthfeel that’s both silky and light at the same time. The wheat and oats add a bit of cloudiness to the beer as well, so don’t be afraid, sometimes cloudy is good! A very special Belgian yeast strain was used to ferment this particular brew, and it was done at downright “hot” temperatures, 78 F, in order for the yeast to develop its spicy profile that is expected for a Farmhouse Ale. No spices were added to this brew, its all from the yeast.
MUSE is hopped with Styrian Goldings for bitter, and Saaz for aroma, both just adding even more to the dryness of the brew. Putting it all together, you have a slightly spicy palate, with pleasant aromas and very dry, mildly bitter finish. At 6.2%, you’ll want another one so you can ponder this intriguing taste profile, and you may find yourself wondering why you haven’t explored Farmhouse Ales before!

22oz bottle from BOTW. Pours a muddy gold color with a head of white creamy lace and big bubbles. Aroma is grassy hops and maybe some wheat character? Not sure. There is also some sweetness that lingers after I pull my nose out of the glass. Flavor is a little citrusy and wheaty but there is more sweetness and malt here that push it out of the wheat beer category and into Saison territory. The hops are in the background but they do their job. I dont really understand the criticism. Perhaps it is a touch too polished and isnt rustic enough for a farmhouse ale. Unfiltered would have been nice.

The questions that come to mind when drinking this are What is it, and Why? I dont know what the heck a farmhouse ale is, they should have have just called it a saison. Besides, its not very good. A rare dud from the Weyerbacher guys.

22oz bottle-(Witty’s Liquor Rahway NJ)-Pours a hazy yellowish orange with a nice white covering for a head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, spices, and floral hops. Taste begins with hops, citrus, yeast, and grains. This light to medium bodied brew is very well balanced but wanted more spiciness and yeast flavors. It finishes with hops and dryness. Not bad but was expecting more.

Pours a lightly hazy, deep golden amber color with a large, rocky, cream colored head. The foam is quickly fleeting, settling to a thin film after about two minutes. Soapy spots of lace are slow to rejoin the body. The aroma is quite grainy, showing notes of dry wheat, barley, oats, and roasted corn. A deeper inhale reveals some pale malt sweetness, with hints of spicy cinnamon and perfumy, floral hops. There’s a dusty mineral overtone as well. Flavors are fairly non-descript, but well balanced, with that light malty sweetness countering the dryness of the cereal grains and the spiciness of the floral hops. There might be some coriander and grain of paradise buried somewhere within. Medium to light bodied, with balanced carbonation, the mouthfeel lacks substance but finishes nice and dry. Overall, this is a decent, drinkable saison that just needs some time in the bottle to dry out a bit.

Tasty, like a saison with a tangy aftertaste. Not quite as smooth as Saison Dupont, but a pretty smooth solid Farmhouse ale nonetheless...

Great saison. It lacks compared to other saisons like Dupont in that its sppearance and aroma are weak. I expected floaties and a light clear color. Instead i got a darker hazy orange. Has a nice acidic background with strong notes of oranges and lime. The acid lingures in the finish. Worth a buy, cheers.
