Commercial Description:
Our latest creation, MUSE, is a Farmhouse Ale with a distinctive Weyerbacher signature. Farmhouse Ales, by tradition, were used as restoratives for workers during the warmer months under the hot midday sun. Typically made with barley, sometimes wheat and oats as well, a Farmhouse Ale could be light golden to amber in color, but always with a dry, slightly tart finish, thus being a great thirst quencher.
Weyerbacher MUSE is light amber in color, brewed with barley and a healthy dose of raw wheat and raw oats as per tradition, to give it a mouthfeel that’s both silky and light at the same time. The wheat and oats add a bit of cloudiness to the beer as well, so don’t be afraid, sometimes cloudy is good! A very special Belgian yeast strain was used to ferment this particular brew, and it was done at downright “hot” temperatures, 78 F, in order for the yeast to develop its spicy profile that is expected for a Farmhouse Ale. No spices were added to this brew, its all from the yeast.
MUSE is hopped with Styrian Goldings for bitter, and Saaz for aroma, both just adding even more to the dryness of the brew. Putting it all together, you have a slightly spicy palate, with pleasant aromas and very dry, mildly bitter finish. At 6.2%, you’ll want another one so you can ponder this intriguing taste profile, and you may find yourself wondering why you haven’t explored Farmhouse Ales before!

Sweet aromas with some barnyard aromas, not really funky but there’s a hint of mustiness. Pours cloudy amber gold with a thick white head. Very dry, with hints of spicy sweetness, hints of peppermint, some funky flavors, actually reminescent of a Fantome with a spicy, floral yet dry finish. There’s a decent bitterness in there too. All in all not a bad Saison.

12oz Bottle. A wet corn and grain nose. Peppered with bubblegum and sweet yeast esters. Not particularly enticing. A nip of diacetyl? Some rotten grain. Pours a clouded orange-yellow, with an oily off-white head, fading fast. Thin, watery and bitter. Not much depth or decent flavor development. A real wash of peppercorn oil, soap, and wheat sugar. A bit of plant meat and some real flat spice character. Meh.

22 oz bottle split into two poured orange with a fluffy white head. Green apples in the aroma. Somewhat dry mouth feel with some pepper in the background. Nice easy drinking beer.

Ok apparently I hate Saisons or I just didn’t like this one. I couldn’t see myself drinking this oddly spicy drink all day. You can smell the hay from the fields and the natural spiciness but then it all goes downhill. Hazy amber in color and a very odd aftertaste even though it was drinkable before it hit my palate. I know this is harsh but it was tough to drink. At least I know to steer clear of this type of beer from now on!

[1508-20080704] 1pt6floz bottle. Sweet musty hay aroma has floral goat hints. Hazy, orange brown body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Smoky wooden flower petal flavour. Medium body. Showing a bit of age, not pleasant anyway.

12 oz bottle. My first Saison, and it didn’t turn out the way I expected. Tastes like a cross between a generic wheat and a belgian. It doesn’t really seem to fit the description of the saison.
