Commercial Description:
Formerly Weyerbacher Imperial Stout.
Rich, velvety and deliciously complex, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout is a truly distinctive winter warmer. We use seven types of malt and two varieties of hops to bring forth this big brew. Quite robust and roasty on the palate, Weyerbacher Imperial Stout has a wonderfully fruity nose and a moderately dry finish. The taste is highly complex- perhaps you'll even discern notes of expresso or chocolate.

bottle. pours a very dark black with no head. strong coffee and malty aromas. medium body which thins on the sides... chocolate, malts, coffee and a slight bitterness dominate the palate. the finish leaves me a bit disappointed. an average imperial stout.

Pours pitch black, tan head. Looks like trouble. Nose is deep coffee. Strong malts. Just a thick and deep fragrance. Hmmm. If only it tastes as good as it has built up to... Flavor is thick with malts. Strong and firm, it does not waver. Hearty, tar like, so deep, it goes beyond coffee or chocolate and just enters a realm of robust that you don’t want to mess with. Coffee hits you in the end after the thick malts have finally calmed down. Feel is thick on liquid with a lower carbonation that you’d expect. Definitely drinkable. Very smooth and very well made. This is one to try. Go get it.

Pours deliciously thick black with very little brown head. Sweet malty aroma contains notes of chocolate and coffee, a bit of floral hops, burnt malts, licorice and slight hints of dark fruit. Flavor is an intriguing mix between floral hop, roastiness, and dark chocolate, with a fair amount of dark fruit. Carbonation is surprising lively, body isn’t quite as thick as I would have expected, and the finish is nicely dry. I like this one.

A Mes rate: Bottle at HogTownHarry Fest ’08
Black and tan with a so so head. Standard stuff really. Mellow hops, chocolate, spice and yeast aroma. Lovely earthy, peaty and spicy flavour with a bit of yeast and an absolutely gorgeous coffee finish that really makes it. Very drinkable and a welcome interlude from the syrup fest we have had this evening.

Strong bitter malt aroma with moderate alcohol. Black color with a medium brown head. Very malt taste with a bit of bitterness on the tongue and a mild finish.

Bottle thanks to artusory. Poured a nice black color with a moderate tan head that diminished to a ring. Aroma of sweet licorice, a bit of fruit, and a little chocolate. Interesting taste for an imperial stout also. Tastes almost like choclate covered cherries with hints of licorice and works its way into a slightly roasty. Nice and creamy on the palate. I guess I would agree that this may not be a true imperial stout, it is a nice change up and an interesting beer. Big thanks to Ryan for sending me this beer.

bottle poured into a snifter had a good rush of carbonation and a one finger head of dense dark tan froth. color is black with little light penetrating. aroma has plumb, malt, raisin, and caramel. mouth feel is medium with some oily coating and good carbonation present on the tongue. flavor is malted with a light roast, plenty of dark fruits, hit of sweet caramel, and not much alcohol present for the 8.2%. has a certain creaminess to it and is rich but i don’t know if it quite hits the imperial level. does have some nice dried dark fruit flavor going for it.

Deep black color that pours with a small 1-finger chocolate milk-colored head. Disappears pretty quickly. Dark malted nose with a little bit of bitter alcohol and sweet and sour cherry. A rich roasted coffee flavor with a hint of fruit sweetness that finishes with burnt bitterness. Definitely some caramel notes in there as well. A little bit less body than I expected, but still very good.
