| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 26, 2009 Weyerbacher Old Heathen is a bitch black ale with a mocha colored head that leaves very nice lacing. The aroma is mostly of coffee. It is medium-full bodied and smooth with a light, dry finish. It is well balanced and quite simple. The flavor, like the aroma, is mostly of coffee. There is a touch of sweetness at the finish, like licorice. This is a very drinkable Imperial Stout, sort of along the lines of Victory Storm King. MrManning (1655), London, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 25, 2009 Bottle courtesy of HogtownHarry. Deep black pour, unleashes a creamy mocha head. Not a lot of lacing here, but the head was long lived. Nose is quite roasty/toasty, with coffee beans, black licorice, some vanilla, dark fruit. Tastes of roasted coffee beans, some dark chocolate, black licorice, some smokey fruity notes, leading to pit fruits and hops towards the end. Nice creamy palate, bitter and dark chocolate sweetness balances. A pleasure. Thanks a lot for this one Harry! coyotehunter (551), , Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 25, 2009 Bottle thanks to MrBunn. Smells of coffee, chocolate and some dark fruit such as raisins or fig. pours a rich black color with a medium head. Less than perfect flavor, with light notes of coffee and dark chocolate with a rather smooth palate. A little bit of wood and dark fruit showing themselves, but rather thin. Fairly well blended, but not real strong. Decent. RedXIII (127), Powell, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2009 A fairly weak imp stout, but still a solid attempt. My only serious knock on this beer is the price, because $12.99 for a six pack is robbery considering I can get Siberian Night for three bucks less. Flavor and aroma have a light touch of nutty, woody coffee with a bitter dark chocolate finish. Although thin for an imp stout in the palate, it still finishes creamy and smooth. Not bad at all. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 16, 2009 Bottle acquired via nimbleprop...THANKS ANDREW!!!! Liquid onyx with a creamy chestnut head. Dark bitter chocolate, roasted coffee and ash in aroma. Similar flavors find their way to the palate, as well. Cocoa, espresso, and campfire smoke are evident in the flavor. Descent mouthfeel but not awe-inspiring. Pretty solid offering. barleywine1 (11), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 14, 2009 I’m so happy I found this beer. The smell is a combination of rich chocolate and nuts, and the head is small, but buttery and aromatic. Taste is built around typical stout flavors - heavy on the chocolate - but there are oats that appear mid-way, as well as a spark of espresso at the end. The thing that really makes this beer good however, is the way it’s put together. I feel like I’m eating something; the different flavors are always there, but each one has its moment. Solid effort and a reliable beer from Weyerbacher. I will almost always be in the mood for one of these, which although almost pitch black in color, goes down relatively easy. Still, it’s probably best to enjoy this on its own (or with some trail mix). xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 11, 2009 12 oz bottle from Ohio. Opaque black with small burnt tan head. Aroma is heavy roasted malt and some chocolate, sweeter. Flavor is about to go sour as oxidation is just beginning to occur but the flavors are still strong with once again a very dominant roast flavor, some darker fruit, some lactose, sweeter dirty malt, Full, thick, chunky body with light carbonation. Very enjoyable and one of the better beers I have had from weyerbacher. SamGamgee (1464), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 9, 2009 12oz bottle. Black w/dark brown edges and a lasting tan head. Caramelized and burnt sugars along with chocolate in the aroma. The flavor is mellow and smooth dark chocolate with light fruitiness and light bitterness. Medium-bodied with mellow, lower carbonation. Definitely on the balanced, quaffable end of the style. I would have no reservations about ordering another, but at the same time its not the most exciting stout.
