ljay6880 (132), , Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2009 12 oz bottle from 2005, served in a tulip glass. Pour is a hazy yellow/orange with a thin white head. Nose is bourbon, oak, malt, light citrus, candy sugar, and various spices. Taste is yeast, bourbon, citrus, and candy sugar with a wet spicy finish. I really enjoyed this brew. I like Merry Monk, but I am particularly receptive to beers done in a bourbon barrel. This is a fantastic beer! scrizzz (1252), kirkland, Washington, USA Jun 21, 2009 Hazy sunset with abundant sandy sediment throughout the glass. Soft oak aroma. Sweet orange honey wrapped in lots of wood, great yin but no yang. I need my yang. MrChopin (621), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 2, 2009 Shimmering gold-orange, slight white head. Nose is incredibly sweet, bourbon dominating severely. There’s also some apple, yeast, and citrus. The flavor is medicinal and has even more bourbon, hot and alcoholic with minor citrus and sugar. Thin mouth, rather watery. The bourbon washes out all the soft qualities of a tripel and the end result is not impressive. daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Mar 16, 2009 This is quite the unique beer. Pours a yellow/gold color. Head was pretty large and white. Aroma is yeasty, fruity, and has some bourbon also. Flavor is both malty and tart, but with oaky bourbon notes. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy. Some sips the bourbon seemed to shine while others I noticed the yeast and tartness more. Very interesting beer. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Jan 11, 2009 Crystal clear golden coloured body with an orange tint and no head at all. On the pour, a large off-white head developed, then faded like a soda. Aroma of peaches, malt, light oak, some spices and more like a budweiser each and everytime I bring my nose to it. Full-bodied; Sweet peach and apricot flavour with malt and alcohol very noticeable, fading fast to a strong malt presence with a light woodsiness and some spice. Aftertaste is long and potent - nice alcoholic twang and some fruits pepper the tongue. Overall, doesn’t really look like a beer since there is no head at all and its clear and orange, but it has a nice taste, albeit non-complex. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased about a year ago from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 04-February-2006 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Boutip (2334), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Dec 9, 2008 Bottle: Poured a bright clear yellow color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of bourbon is dominating with some sweet malt also easily noticeable. Taste is a mix between some bourbon with some sweet malt. All fruity eater or spicy yeast notes are overwhelmed by the bourbon but I still thought it was an enjoyable mix and it wasn’t too cloying overall. Full body with some great carbonation and some alcohol is noticeable. WeeHeavySD (2941), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Sep 25, 2008 12oz bonus from JCB. Pours gold with a bright white ring. Nose is sweet with a nice citrus touch. Taste is sweet with a lot flavor. I’m iffy on tripels and this is tasty. blipp (1631), Newark, New Jersey, USA Sep 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours hazy hold with a white head. The aroma is fruity, with peach, orange, and pineapple. The flavor brings definite bourbon notes, as well as peach, spices and peppermint. Very different, very interesting.
