Aroma is big oak barrel and a bit of acidity. Flavor is interesting...a tripel my ass. It tastes very barrelish and has an interesting sourness to it...but that is about it. I don’t understand how merry monks can turn into this...and I tried merry monks right before it too. Mouthfeel was very light. Interesting...but nothing special. hiphops (280), caldwell, New Jersey, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 22, 2006 I wasn’t too fond of the merry monks when I had it, but I thought this was a significant improvement. The oak just explodes out at you in the aroma and flavor, and really, that’s pretty much all there is to it. From its appearance and flavor, it’s almost identical to the Riesling made by my local winery. Easy to drink, good ABV, not bad at all. Nejhleader (931), Lemoyne, Pennsylvania, USA

I suppose it does reflect on the tast slightly. Prophecy is a really sweet beer, and has a tad alcohol aroma to it. Very very smooth. I think I like merry monks better, this has a not that great aroma. alobar (1056), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 20, 2006 Cloudy yellow with a soapy white head. Aroma of oak, vanilla, and bourbon. Tastes of vanilla, fruit, and bourbon. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Goldorak (439), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Mar 19, 2006 A very nice golden translucent color, the head was more pils-like ephemerous but with a little bit of cling.
Incredibly oaky and boozy, the alcohols had an acidic touch that I wasn’t too crazy about, it reminded me of a really cheap reisling or any other dry white wine that comes in a box or something.
Poor, poor Beer, the oak just stole your soul. Absolutely no malt profile or body whatsoever, it was just pure 2X4 juice, with maybe a little raisin or sour crabapple, but mostly just wood and an acidic finish that also made me think of cheap wine. I’ve been shot down a few times by friends when I say that oak barrel aging is often useless and over rated, I should keep a bottle of Prophecy and make them try it just to prove to them that I’m right. harmfuldrunk (288), New Jersey, USA
