| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 19, 2005 Hazy golden straw with a bubby white cover that dissipates to a thin cover. Spicy, alcoholic aroma that betrays the oak aging with a bourbony bite combined with some US hops. The oak is great for this beer, though I haven’t had the original Merry Monks’ Tripel, but the aging may have not been so good: sour, candylike oxidation clashes with hops and oaky, caramel malt. Cinnamon notes. Quite a bit sweet, but offset with alcohol and a mild bitterness. Full body and not quite overly sweet finish. hershiser2 (914), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 19, 2005 12-oz bottle. Golden with a small white head that disappears quickly- lotsa bubbles throughout. Woody and earthy aromas. Light in flavor- but what’s there is very nice. Honey hints, apple, slight alcohol finish. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 14, 2005 22oz - Aroma is sweet bubblegum, Belgian yeast, banana, and a touch of vanilla. Pours a clear yellow with a steady stream of bubbles coming from the center of my Duvel tulip. Small white head and great lacing. Flavor is first alcohol, then fading to banana and bubblegum. There is a bit of bourbon in the aftertaste but it is not overwhelming to the other flavors. A sweet and sticky palate. Interesting and tasty. Numenor (869), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 10, 2005 Overall not one of my favorite beers. Far less offensive than the Insanity by Weyerbacher, but no where near the caliber of the Decadence. Extremely sweet tastes combined with high alcohol content made this a difficult one for me to drink. In this respect it is very similar to the other oaked beers of Weyerbacher. radagast83 (1302), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 5, 2005 I didn’t like Merry Monks, but I found this beer to be very very good. Dark orange color, and a very nice head that lasts, a pear/apple taste. KAggie97 (2458), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 2/5 | 18/20 | Oct 22, 2005 Bottle from Kevin before he became homeless. Pours solid cheddar cheese orange, with noisy carbonation and a frothy head. Aroma is sweet banana, bubblegum, and pear. Flavor is pear, mango, and vanilla followed by a dull thud of bourbon and oak. Very tropical. Palate is watery. Unusual beer to say the least; I’ve never had anything like this. But I’d love more. Awesome. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 12/20 | Oct 19, 2005 a very light orange/ dark yellow. Almost cheap beer colored. A very week bourbon. Which complements the belgian well. Light and sweet. Non obtrusive. beeryum (652), Norcross, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 18, 2005 Bottle. Orange gold hazy pour. Oaked spiced and tart aroma. Swet spiced flavors, common with a triple, with some vanilla and corriander. Oak flavors and bourbon present also. Tart and slightly sour. Perhaps this bottle was going bad.
