Aroma is lightly malty sweet with bourbon (vanilla and oak). Taste is sweet malty vanilla with alcohol/hops finish. Pretty good, but not the best by Weyerbacher. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 7, 2005 The only Merry Monks I had went bad, so I can’t compare the two. This one pours orange with a very small head. Very vinous aroma, like an oaked chardonnay. There’s also some citrus, and a background smell like apple cider. Vinous in the mouth as well, with a light tartness and some Belgian yeast notes. The oak has imparted a semi-dry finish, but that finish is strange and bitter and detracts from the beer. Thin mouthfeel. Interesting.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 5, 2005 Lightly hazy; honey-yellow hue; no head. Sticky and soft texture; mild carbonation. Notes of white wine and apples. Sweet malts (honey, cereal, vanilla, and milk). Flowery, herbal hops, with curious notes of sweet grass and earth. Light wood in the aftertaste. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA

The flavor is full of citric fruit. Quite a nice tripel. Very easy to drink. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 25, 2005 Poured a hazy yellow color. Aroma was earthy, woody, spicy, vanilla, and some bourbon as it warms. Less barrel aroma than the others in their line. Flavor of sweet malt. Spicey with less barrel in the flavor than in the aroma. This smells sweet like a nice scotch, tastes the same has has a nice warming sensation as well. I liked this a little more then Monks itself. axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA

I was really not a big fan but the barrel aging mellowed out the trippel and made it smoother and easier to drink. Good stuff. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA
