Pours a wonderful gold color with small white head. Vanilla prominent in the nose. Very lively beer. Hoppy and some citrus. Strong presence of alcohol. Dry, slightly bitter finish.

Small white head that kicks it quickly, patchy lacing left behind. Clear straw color. Woody nose, hints of fruit, light cedar, vanilla and citrus. Light body, a prickly carbonation. The oak flavors are fairly dominant along with a pleasent spiceyness, woody with a touch of fruityness left over from the original Tripel base. Lightly sour, a touch of alcohol and a hint of lemon. An interesting brew. The finish being lightly sweet. Probably the better of Weyerbachers B/A beers though. They really need to do something to build the body up in their beers. IMHO most of their beers are a bit thin bodied/watery unfortunately.

Bottle: Pale golden, hazy, small white fizzy head that quickly settles, very minor lacing, barely carbonated.   Oak and Bourbon on the nose, but they seem to be tainted with some sort of candyish coconut suntan lotion.   Luckily this doesn’t translate onto the tongue.   Basic pale fruity sweetness to start, melded with soft Oak and Bourbon flavors.   Not so sure about using Merry Monks as a base, as I think its too light.   This is somewhat akin to Allagash Odyssey, interesting, but needs to be a richer beer to start with.   Fairly full bodied, but with a moderate mouthfeel.   Sweet candyish Bourbon on the finish, with an emergence of the coconut suntan lotion after the finish.   Decent, just doesn’t really float my boat.   Needs more complex flavors as a base IMHO.   Thanks to both zathrus13 and MAP for providing samples!

Earthy lemon zest aroma and some other stuff that just seems a little off, perhaps that is the oak? Cloudy copper-orange with a rocky head that disappears. Funky citrus and spice flavor with bananna and strawberry fruit and then an oakish and alcohol finish. The alcohol in the finish is bad for me and the palate was weird, cloying sweetness. Thanks to zathrus13 for the trade.

Draught -- Harrisburg Brewfest. Golden pour, lasting thin head. Incredibly strong vanilla upfront in both the flavor and the aroma. The oak does not do well for the already sweet Belgian golden. Comes out cloyingly sweet. None of the esters or malty complexity are accessible through the intense sugary sweetness.

22 oz bottle. Very light orange with a lasting white thin head. Aroma is very aeromatic with bubblegum and plastic. Taste is vanilla, butter and orange which all go pretty nicely together. Very good now and I’m sure this will only get better, proving once again Weyerbacher kicks Victorys ass!

22 oz. brown bomber bottle. No freshness date seen anywhere. Poured out the same color as Budweiser. Aromas are of oak barrels, vanilla beans, bourbon, some fusels, slight banana esters, malts, sourdough bread, and cloves. Flavors are about the same as the aromas. Medium mouthfeel, thin body. Overpowering alcohols. Earthy, chalky finish. Come on, Weyerbacher, find something new to brew. Your oak barrel beers have played out, completely.

22 oz bomber: Clear pale golden w/ a short lived white head. Heavy clove and imitation banana nose. Oaky wood notes, and hints of vanilla. Some sugary sweetness, bready malt, and bubble gum as it warms. Very little bourbon in the aroma. Taste is banana fruity, and moderate whiskey which mutes most everthing else. Some peppery yeast & clove with a dry finish & aftertaste. Very little malt flavor of which to speak. Higher carbonation, lighter body, warming m/f, and dry from alcohol content. Overall, I’m not a big fan of this style of beer aged in a bourbon barrel. The whiskey takes away too much from the other flavors and subtleties IMHO.
