Had a definite high alcohol taste w/traces of sweetness, kind of reminded me of a bourbon & water or whiskey & water. Didn’t really get a whole lot of hops or malt, did have a somewhat fruity flavor to it. Very different, didn’t really taste like a tripel to me, almost reminded me more of a barleywine. Very different, I wouldn’t drink it all the time but it was a nice change of pace. coldbrewky (733), Saugerties, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2007 I was a bit underwhelmed by my local brewery here. I guess I’ve been spoiled by.....call me a Heritic. If you’ve had both you’ll knoiw what I’m getting at. The "oak ageing" realy didnt give much to this beer. a bit on thenose but not the mouth. Pours a hazy pale gold. Neato swirling carbonation.....It realy wasn’t me, it was the first beer of the day for petes sake. Whispy sweet nose. Sweetish medium body ( not to be confused with Medium Swedish body) with oaky tones. Didn’t seem like 9.3 % until 20 minutes after finish. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

The aroma has a light fruity touch . Flavor is slighlty fruity and is somewhat one-dimensional. nimbleprop (922), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 7, 2007 Looks a little like wine, smells a little like wine and tastes a little like wine. Poured a flat, murky straw color with almost no head. Smells of grapes and a little like vanilla. Initial flavor was a little like bourbon but with no heat, then it melds into a flavor that has a little vanilla and a little white grape to it. Had very little yeast to it which I was pleased with. Nice complex flavor, smooth sweet finish. Very solid beer and not alot like other tripels. alexanderj (2269), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 30, 2007 Updated: Jun 22, 2008Rerate wanted to try a bottle with a bit of age on it, because of my previous rating. Bottle poured a a gold color with a small white head. Aroma again was dominated by bourbon, but a little better than I remembered. Also some yeast, alcohol and apples. While the aroma was better, the flavor was probably worse. Just no balance or subtlety just a crap load of bourbon. Not my cup of tea remained a 3.2 for me. (poured a ruddy yellow, with a medium white head. Smell was bourbon, fruits, spice, some yeat. Taste was not complex for me. Bourbon flavor at first was too dominant. Some spice, yeast, fruit, and some vanilla. Liked the finish. ) lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 18, 2007 Appearance: Very pale luminescent yellow-gold, lightly hazy with a wispy white head.
Smell: Vinous, grapey and dry like white Riesling.
Taste: White wine, caramel, vanilla, alcohol. Full and sticky mouth. Nice stuff, a very interesting combonation of oak barrells and tripel. WISEGUY572 (1246), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 13, 2007 I had not read the description before tasting. Appearance ... pale straw with a good white head ... looks like a saison. Smells like American whiskey ... bourbon? How odd. Definitely Belgian, stronger than a saison, but some of the complexity of a tripel hidden under the whiskey and oak. The bready yeasty nature of a Belgian tripel is, of course, still obvious.
