Commercial Description:
Massively big and delicious, QUAD is an elegant and dark ale. Rich with complexity and flavor, try savoring it after a long day or during a fine dinner. You also might enjoy it as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to a dessert, but QUAD stands alone quite well. We recommend enjoying QUAD in a brandy snifter or wineglass so you can drink in the aroma of this fine elixir.

Aroma was nice. A little metallic. Almost like wet pennies. Pours a clear orange color with a nice short lasting head. Flavor is nice. Has a lot going on. Sweet malt flavors at the forefront, but that metallic taste is still there. Good alcohol burn. Nice beer. My first thought was of the Schloss Eggenberg Urbock 23° which is also one of my favorites.

The Fonefan/Brugmansia Cnudde tasting. Steve/Coldbrewky, thanks for sending me this one! Red-golden with a nice, creamy head. The aroma has notes of malt, alcohol, yeast and raisin. The flavour has notes of malt, raisin, apple, citrus, yeast and the finish has a light grapefruit bitterness. Normally I like Weyerbacher - but not this one. It’s often how I feel when US brewer experiment with the Belgian style - and vice versa for that matter...

Pours a pretty clear orange with hardly any head. Aroma if candy sugar and ALCOHOL. Taste is almost unbarably strong alcohol. Fortunately, weyerbacher has many other better products to offer.

Foam Rangers tasting. Deep golden orange with small head. Spicy nose with fruit and malt. Flavor is yeast, brown sugar, cranberry and caramel. Wish this brewery was near me.

Dark orange with a small, off-white head. Perfumed yeast aroma, with some alcohol showing. Sweet and somewhat cloying flavour with a lot of alcohol.

22 fl oz bottle@fonefan/Brugmansia’s Cnudde tasting. Pours clear and golden orange with a fully gone head. Spiced and alcohol heavy aroma. Sweet fruity and caramel malty flavour. Light yeasty and alcohol driven flavour following. Warming finish. Ends very spiced.

I wish this hadn’t been one of the first Weyerbachers I’ve reviewed, because I love this brewery, but this is not one of their better efforts. Deep burgundy pour with a weak head. Intense brown sugar aromas, followed by lots of harsh, sweet/tart brown sugar notes in the flavor. I like it when alcohol makes its presense known, but this is not the gentle wafting sensation i want from alcohol, it’s an assault. (And I’m a fan of beers with even higher ABV’s.) There’s some crabapple, berry, and a little caramel in the background, but if these were just brought forward to mitigate the harshness, this would be a better beer. I’m bringing three other Weyerbachers (all previously tried, and loved) back to the Midwest with me, and I’m sure I’ll give them better reviews.
