Commercial Description:
Massively big and delicious, QUAD is an elegant and dark ale. Rich with complexity and flavor, try savoring it after a long day or during a fine dinner. You also might enjoy it as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to a dessert, but QUAD stands alone quite well. We recommend enjoying QUAD in a brandy snifter or wineglass so you can drink in the aroma of this fine elixir.

Draft at Barcarde. Pours a cloudy gold. Aroma of raisin and light caramel. Flavor is overly dominated by alcohol, which is unfortunate as it covers the light bits of raisin and fruit almost completely.

12oz bottle from trade with Beachbum25. This Abbey Quad pours a hazy golden amber with a reddish hue. Head was virtually non existent. Sweet nose of candied cherries, raisins, various dried fruits. Finish was sweet and made my mouth somewhat tingly. This beer left me wanting more. Thanks Beachbum25!!!!

Copper pour with thin off white head. Aroma of dried dark fruits. Taste is aggressive sweetness of caramels and raisins. Way too sweet. Definitely has a strong alcohol bite.

Clear copper pour, small white head. Aroma is sweet and caramel. Flavor is a lot of caramel all the way, and perfumy notes also. A touch of chocolate in the background but really just sweet caramel and some booze. Thin mouthfeel and low on carbonation. Damn this is a boring beer and I’m gonna pour the other half of the bomber down the drain.

Beautiful amber color; very thin head. The aroma is malty, not too strong; a bit alcoholic too, maybe there is even a trace of phenol; and, as it happens sometimes in strong beers, they can show a vegetables aroma. Full mouthfeel, well balanced, as there is still some sweetness and the necessary bitterness; maybe the alcohol is too much; some malt flavor and traces of caramel; beware: wait some time and your patience will be rewarded with some better malt flavor, even with sweet hazelnuts coming from the residual yeast (this one being particularly interesting). The final (you may suspect it, some malt and nutty bitterness) is long. They have good hops that can work well with the high amount of sugars, and it has been brewed with usual skills; but this beer is lacking a bit in complexity. Very good.

From a 12oz Bottle. Pours a murky, ruddy caramel color with a thin ring of wispy off-white head. There was a healthy crack upon opening the bottle, but the CO2 never really appeared in the form of head or carbonation. Swirling the glass brings out a thin head, but it quickly retreats back into the dense body. Fruity nose with notes of brandy and green raisins. Excessive bubblegum phenols. Some apple and pear esters present as well, along with an underlying caramel maltiness. Full bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel with a prickling alcohol bite. Some caramel malt flavors come out right away on the palate, along with some mild raisins and plum. The mouthfeel develops this flabby, buttery texture mid-palate, but it’s not diacetyl - just an odd texture. Gets a bit phenolic in the finish, bringing out more bubblegum before finishing with some warming alcohols and peppery spice. Not enough complexity, too much bubblegum and caramel, and the alcohol is too hot.

Sweet and sticky, with spices (cinamon, clove and cardamon) a tad fruity. Very nice for the Cristmas season. Strong alcohol precense. Very smooth and creamy palate. Not a bad brew but it does lack complexity for a quad. Lacking carbonation.

22 oz bottle. Poured a clear dark orange color. Head was thick and yellowish/off white in color. Bubblegum struck my nose first followed by whiffs of clove, alcohol, and pear. Sweet on the tongue with a warm splash of alcohol. Assertively spicy up front, but mellowed toward the middle. Clove gave way to a fleshy fruit flavor. A bit like apples soaked in sweet white wine. Overall I thought the bubblegum aroma was a bit much and I didn’t particularly enjoy the play between the fruit and alcohol. That said, it wasn’t a bad beer.
