The nose is sweet filled with plum, and other dark fruits, coriander, and caramel. Flavor is dark fruits, malt, belgian candy sugar and a hint of yeast and lightly vinous. A solid ale. | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 15, 2007 12oz bottle. Aroma: Lots of fruitiness. Raisins, prunes, apples, and light citrus. Brown sugar, caramel, toasted malt, and some coriander spiciness. And a lot of alcohol. A lot. Appearance: Dark copper in color and cloudy. Light beige head was full and creamy with fair retention. Fair lacing. Flavor: Rich maltiness with notes of toasted nuts, yeast, raisins, plums, orange, brown sugar. Alcohol starts off pleasant, but is way too hot by the end of my first glass. A mess. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium-high carbonation. Lots of alcohol warmth all over the mouth. Overall: Not good. Some nice malt characteristics, but the alcohol stomps in and crushes everything. kegoguinness (45), Dodge City, Washington DC, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 12, 2007 Just bury me with a bottle of this strapped to my face like a feed bag. It’s too sweet to have a lot of it, and this is probably by design---drink too much and you’ll be ambulatory on all fours like a quadruped, which I think is why they call it quad to begin with! But this is no dog of a beer---it’s sweet as hell and makes no apologies, but does employ a magician’s bag of tricks of character along the way down your throat. Loved it. jcwattsrugger (5563), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Oct 10, 2007 12oz bottle-pours a diminishing light tan head and dark amber color. Aroma is sweet medium malt, medium fruit, then spice-coriander, alcohol. Taste is very sweet medium malt, medium fruit, then spice-coriander, alcohol. Too strong spice. Aftertaste has some metallic. Too sweet, thick syrupy, initially then dryness comes through. Sipping. Components just don’t come together that well for me. Thanks jwc215 for sharing. RollinHard (761), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 2, 2007 Thanks to Jasonmech for this bottle! Pours a dark orange red with a somewhat small off-white head. Aroma of caramel and brown sugar, grapes, pears, a pinch of booze, and a slight yeast funk. Very sweet and hot taste of brown sugar, caramel, molasses, Quadlike fruits (pears dates plums raisins). Pretty boozy and hot. Finish has a surprising nice toasty hop flavor and is very good, but not enough to cut through the immense sweetness. Thick and slick texture, but there’s still some drinkability, even if it’s kinda slick and sticky. Pretty barley wine-esque, but with more Belgian estery qualities. There’s a number of things that prevent this from being a true quad, but I still really like this sort of big sweet flavor. theviolet (169), New York, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 25, 2007 Aroma of deep fruits and alcohol. Slightly port-winish in smell. Too much alcohol ad not deep enough. Medium-orange brown. Very small yellowish head. Flavor is very alcoholic, some creaminess. Actually a good deal of bitterness in the finish. Decent. Kind of an empty mouthfeel, nothing disctinct. performula (147), Triangle Area, North Carolina, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 21, 2007 This was my first Quad. Way too sweet for my liking. Didn’t have a great taste. More of an overwhelming alcohol taste and a side of syrup. Did I say it was sweet? EithCubes (2164), Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 18, 2007 Bomber from the last time I visited my parents, I think (may have been from Asheville). Sweet malty aroma with rubbing alcohol undertones, brown sugar and sugar cane overtones, and a vague, floating fruitiness (peaches for sure, cherry and plum are debatable). Amber-copper hue with a creamy, expensive-looking beige/tanned head and moderate carbonation. Strongly spiced with subtler contribution from the yeast; fruitiness, alcohol, and grape-ish malt constitute the rest of the main body of flavor. Full-bodied and sweet (juuuust under cloying) with heft and warmth from the alcohol (not to mention some boozishness) and light back-end prickling from the hops. Aftertaste is dry and flammable. I did enjoy this a lot, but, in the end, it’s closer to sugary children’s candy than a complex, classy offering from the top shelf.
