Commercial Description:
Massively big and delicious, QUAD is an elegant and dark ale. Rich with complexity and flavor, try savoring it after a long day or during a fine dinner. You also might enjoy it as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to a dessert, but QUAD stands alone quite well. We recommend enjoying QUAD in a brandy snifter or wineglass so you can drink in the aroma of this fine elixir.

Single 12 oz. bottle from Wine Vault, Columbus, OH; served from a small snifter. Gorgeous red color, but, sadly, virtually no head. Aroma is cherries, berries, spices (only immediately after swirling), gummi bears, candy sugar, and light warmth from the alcohol; the more I sniff this, the more enticing the aroma becomes. Flavor is the tiniest bit sour, with lots of malt and fruity sweetness; some kind of indescribable malty breadiness/Kool-Aid appears in the middle which, which is somehow fitting; lightly tingly all the way through with some alcohol in the exhale; lightly warming; very dry finish. Medium body; low carbonation. I really think this one is underrated, but I’m having a hard time deciding just how "good" this beer is. Is it just above average, or is it outstanding? If you just pop the cap, pour it into a glass, and start drinking, it’s forgettable and average at best. On the other hand, I’m stricken by how good this beer is if you really go hunting for aromas and flavors; you find a lot of complex stuff going on if you really take the time to analyze and enjoy it, but you really do need to look for the greatness here. Ultimately, having rated over 450 beers at this point, I feel comfortable saying this is in the top 10% of beers I’ve had to date, but I’d have a hard time putting it in the top 2%. Overall, this is a great beer to analyze, and I’m glad to have tried it.

From the 12 oz bottle: Poured a rust-colored brew, with a let-down of a watery body (at least visually), and an ultra thin head. Pretty tight little sugary aroma, almost reminiscent of grape juice. Wow ... despite it’s innocent allure, this packs a powerful little punch. Heady in its alcohol-laced sweetness, this warms your gullet like a little bit of lighter fluid on its way down. Grape, sourdough bread, and a bit of unripe pear. Very good. (#2670, 1/28/07)

bottle from Crystie street supplys in the bowery. Rich. Gold pour with yellow bubbly head with moderate durability. Rich rich flavors of oranges, limes, ginger, sourdough, paint (i love the smell of fresh paint),vodka. Not tasting the chocolate other refer to, could be a chocolate center though. very alcoholic palate.

Bottle. Poured darker than I was expecting. Really nice aroma at first. Lots of chocolate and cherry and other dark fruit. But, as it warmed, the chocolate went away and what started as a whiff of vinyl began to take over. The mouthfeel acted in a similar fashion. Very nice to begin. Chocolate malty, dark fruit and a nice vinous aspect became somewhat plasticky as it warmed. A bit a spice, a bit of molasses and a little dry, but the alcohol stays remarkably hidden. Very nice

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were and left behind a semi-opaque typically carbonated brown colored body and a very good lacing. The aroma was brown malt and mild vinous. The mildly vinous mouth feel was strongly tingly at the start and mediumly tingly at the finish. The flavor contained notes of malt mild spice vinous and alcohol. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. Another beer with quite a kick to iut.

Bottle. Very small ivory head that mostly diminished, poor lacing, cloudy, miinimal carbonation, and an orange brown hue. Nose was malty, caramel, sweet, dark fruits and alcohol. Flavor was very tasty--dark fruits, malty, caramel, vinuous, and somewhat dry tasting and oh so good! Mouthfeel was slightly tingly and dry. Medium body. Definitely worthy of a try. Truly enjoyed this one.

Very little lacing and little to no head. The nose was slightly caramel, but not tempting. Smooth on the tongue though with little taste. Mediocre--been that kind of week ;0)
