Commercial Description:
Massively big and delicious, QUAD is an elegant and dark ale. Rich with complexity and flavor, try savoring it after a long day or during a fine dinner. You also might enjoy it as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to a dessert, but QUAD stands alone quite well. We recommend enjoying QUAD in a brandy snifter or wineglass so you can drink in the aroma of this fine elixir.

12 oz bottle-carmel amber with a small fuzzy white head. Super sweet/spicy nose-allspice, cinnamon, dark fruit (grapes, plums, light sourness). Man, this smells cloyingly sweet. flavors are dominated by super sweet plums with some light red grape notes. sweetness dominates, but for the style, its not that detracting. It doesnt have enough body to compensate like a true belgian quad. for an american version of this complex style, i give it props. my bottle wasnt that hot-the 11.9 was not that present. my bottle is at least a year old from what i can remember. nice fruity finish of apple and pears. really not bad, but definatly holds no candle to a true belgian quad.

12-oz.; thanks, BeachBum25! Pours a very cloudy, almost murky amber-brown, leaning to dark brown. Spritz of moussy white head, but not much. Very alcoholic nose with some fruit. Plenty of sweet malt there, too. Sharply alcoholic on the attack; not in a cheap booze sort of way, though--in a young beer way. A little hot and bitey with the booze on the end, too. This would benefit from cellaring, but it’s pretty darn nice right now, despite the booziness.

GABF 06. Light brown. Aroma is dark belgian sweet malts. Taste has some qualities of a quad but overall is cloying and a bit too sweet, for my tastes at least.

Pours bronze and clear with a small off-white head. Bad sign number one when a quad isn’t bottle coditioned (isn’t that supposed to be one of the fermentations?) and has almost no head. Aroma is very sweet - candy licorice, sweet malt, some vanilla. Fairly one dimensional aroma. The body is thick and syrupy with a small amount of carbonation. Taste starts with brown sugar sweetness, anise, vanilla and overall cloying and sweet. The finish doesn’t offer much more, maybe a bit of astringency and spice. There is some alcohol burn as well. This is probably the most one dimensional quad I can think of. It is not really bad, but pretty much boring. If you are strictly looking for a quick buzz, this could be your beer of choice.

12 oz bottle-Poured a cloudy amber/copper color w/absolutely no head or lacing-resembled a barleywine. Roasted, floral fruity aroma. Big, complex flavor of roasted almonds, cherry/chicory fruit, caramel/toffee, vanilla spice, & some citrus. Long, sweet, light malty finish, no real trace of hops. Wasn’t quite what I was expecting. but very refreshing. Very much like a desert wine/aperitif. Not something I would drink all the time & definitely not a session beer, but very enjoyable.

Bottle. Poured cloudy copper color with a minimal fizzy white head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Moderate caramel malty, tart fruit and alcohol aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Medium malty balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration with a small alcohol bite.

Bottle. Bourbon colored with almost no head. Aroma is spicy, notes of vanilla, alcohol, dark fruit, some malt. Flavor is strange... sweet and sugary, only slight bitterness, with a fruity backdrop. Apples throughout. Decent mouthfeel, syrupy, only slightly bubbly. Confusing beer, not what I was expecting at all. Well hidden alcohol though, but not hugely exciting in general.
