Commercial Description:
Massively big and delicious, QUAD is an elegant and dark ale. Rich with complexity and flavor, try savoring it after a long day or during a fine dinner. You also might enjoy it as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to a dessert, but QUAD stands alone quite well. We recommend enjoying QUAD in a brandy snifter or wineglass so you can drink in the aroma of this fine elixir.

Bottle. Opaque rust-tinted brown body, not much head. Very estery aroma: unripe green grapes, the sweet part of rhubarb, dry roasted malt, and some candi sugar. Big sweet flavor with some peppermint spice in the finish. I get grahm gracker, sweet malt, brown sugar in the start with the finish trending towards spicy peppermint, those cinnamon hot candies, some herbal green hops, oak, and light (but fitting alcohol). The flavors are vey well blended and compliement one another well. Also, there’s a distinct change in flavor from start to finish making for an interesting savory experience. I usualy dislike Quads because they’re too sweet but the spice in this one does a great job of balancing out the rich malt. The carbonation seems a overdone but the bubles are quite small so they don’t blast out your mouth.

This poured out an opaque brown color with a slightly red hue. A tall head of beige foam formed a top the body and rose from the glass. As the head drops down to a bubbly cap sticky rings of lace are left to decorate the glass. Smells of sweet dark ripe fruit rose from the glass with a bit of spicy caramel covered malt mixing in as. A slight smell of alcohol creeps in as this warms but it only adds to the experience. Fruit hits the palette first with a light spicy sweetness that is met with a caramel flavor. There was a good bit of spice in this as well that also was present in the bitter lingering after taste. Very complex flavor with only the slightest hint of the huge alcohol on the aftertaste. The body felt a little thinner than most quads but was creamy and pleasing. Drinkability is good with no negative alcohol presence and a very complex flavor. I will be picking up a few more of these next time I see them and recommend you try this if you haven’t.

12 oz bottle: very generous and extra creamy light tan head with pink hues. Glowing, hazed rosy chestnut body. Dusty aroma with squished golden raisins, ripe cherry skins, brown sugar and dull yeast. Creamy, well carbonated palate that seems to promise depth and complexity, but only provides an intro to sharp alcohol and honeyed yeast. Vanilla and doughy undertones do provide some interest, but the alcohol is too dominate and hard to get past. Though I would say this sample was a little too young and raw and will likely develop, it will never stand side by side with its Belgian cousins…

Just out of the bottle nose gives up a roasty whiff. It settles as a dark red, still hazy. The head a frothy, tan foam which dissapates nicely. You’re left with a nice medium body ale, sometimes bitter, sometimes sweet long finish just to keep you wondering.

Bottle. Pours a hazy copper with no head to speak of. Nose is of wheat malt and a great sour/sweet aroma. Nice blending together... this one smells awesome! Lets begin... Bubble gum, banana, with a tart bitter finish on the back of the tongue - this may be a little too dry for me. Reminds me of Orval. Alcohol is very evident and it numbs the buds. Nice creamy full body with a light biting carbonation of tiny, tiny bubbles. This one doesn’t get better as you drink it and the numbing effect begins to annoy a bit by the bottom of the glass. Not bad, not great.

deep dark amber, head dissapates quickly to spread around the rim of the goblet. chocolate, caramel, and butterscotch aromas. chocolate and brownsugar flavors...very sweet. over the top with belgian sugars. this is not a bad quad, just a bit more one dimensional when compared to some of the great belgian quads. I wonder what a stretch of time in the cellar would do for this?

Sweet. Delicious. Would be great as a dessert, but not one I’d order just to drink. Glad I had a sip instead of a full one -- just not up my alley.
