Commercial Description:
Massively big and delicious, QUAD is an elegant and dark ale. Rich with complexity and flavor, try savoring it after a long day or during a fine dinner. You also might enjoy it as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to a dessert, but QUAD stands alone quite well. We recommend enjoying QUAD in a brandy snifter or wineglass so you can drink in the aroma of this fine elixir.

Sample at the tasting at From the Vine on 1.30.09. Clear amber color with no head. Yeasty, malty and sugary nose. Flavors of yeast and sweet malt and finishes sort of boozy with a bit of hop.

Bottles courtesy of kiefdog. Pours deep gold with copper core and almost no head. The aroma is abusive with a truck load of figs, prunes, raisins, brown sugar and a bit of heat. The taste is much the same with big bold prune, raisin and plum notes that escort the flavor to midway. As the finish draws nearer an alcohol chemical sensations surfaces to mar the experience some. Brown sugar sugary sweetness rounds things out some with the aid of a warming sensation. The after taste is teaming with lingering notes of figs, prunes and raisins.

A nice big Belgian to sip on during the last evening of 2008. Pours a river water brown color with some red and copper highlights. Frothy, light tan head and a generous handful of spotty lacing. Phenomenal aroma of fruity, musty yeast with plums, clove and vanilla. Like sniffing a flowery bouquet of goodness. Rich, filling body that is sweet and lightly syrupy. A slow smooth whiskey type feeling on the throat. Figs, raisins and caramel corn flavors are wrapped around an underlying earthiness. Very sweet with a deep subtle burn. The overall taste fell a bit short to the awe inspiring aroma. I sense this single is well aged and blended, but I have no idea of it’s age. Real nice, comforting sipper.

12 oz bottle. Hazy copper color with a slight bit of lacing and a good size head which disappeared in a minute or two. Excellent mouth feel, very heavy and yeasty. Not much aroma. The alcohol wasn’t as overpowering as I thought and I’m sensitive to alcohol taste. Overall a very drinkable beer as a treat or with dinner, not very sessionable due to the abv and its heaviness.

Dark burnt orange color with a thinnish white head and marginal lacing. Aroma of citrus/coriander and yeast. Flavor of coriander/orange and spices with a sweet finish, a syrupy texture, and very noticable alcohol, not a surprise given the ABV. Chest warming finish.

Bottle from Knightly Spirits in Orlando. copper color and a small light head that doesn’t last. Aroma is quite nice and strong. Notes of fruit, caramel, syrup, and alcohol! flavor is sweet with some good fruit notes and is a bit sticky(but in a good way) I get some caramel, maple and brown sugar notes. Quite a strong quad in flavor.

Thanks, kiefdog for the share. Holy alcohol burn, Batman! Pours a brown gold with a nose of dates and figs that can be smelled across the room. Sugary dark fruit, is also present. Don’t stick your nose too far in or the alcohol will burn off a few hairs. Flavor is as expected with the nose as it is. Syrupy beer with apple, plum, and alcohol flavor. Not the typical quad, but massive is a good word for it. Left me ambivalent, but I am positive that I don’t want to session it.

12oz bottle from Liquor Depot (Tampa, FL). Pours a clear dark amber to copper color with a thin white head that settles quickly to nothing. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of maple syrup, caramel, honey, some hints of fresh ripe fruit. Some medicinal notes like cough syrup. Flavor is malty and syrupy with notes of dark fruit, caramel, raisins, plums and ripe apple, strong phenol notes. Generally syrupy mouthfeel with a strong alcohol finish. Leaves a burning sensation in my throat. This is a strange beer for the style.
