Commercial Description:
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn't live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

Powerful smell of grain and light malt. It had a warm brown color that was quite cloudy. The head was large with a fine tan almost creamy texture. The taste was of strong grain and yeast, not hoppy, slight malt but definately not sweet. much smoother finish than you might expect. It’s a "Slam Dunk" but an 8ft high rim.

22oz bottle. medium brown, perfect cloudiness. White soapy head. Awesomely perfect aroma for this style. Huge banana and cloves, rich malt, nicely toasted. Lots of alcohol in the nose as well. Rich malt, deeply creamy mouthfeel. Overall the flavor

From a 22oz bottle - Pours a slightly cloudy reddish/brown. Lightly carbonated with no lacing . Complex smells of dark fruits and light malt. First sip is creamy with spices complimenting the wheat. Alcohol notes present. Tons of complexity here. There is a lot going on here.

22 oz. bottle on 10/7/2008. Hazy mahogany pour, large, yellowish tan head that collapses quickly to a 1/8" layer that leave a sheeting lace. Caramel, fruit esters, spice waft from the glass. Tastes of burned caramel, some wheaty tanginess, and a peppery bitterness at the finish. Medium body, lively carbonation, smooth , some stickiness. Seemed a little harsh to me, needs a little more rounded malt character for better balance. Still, quite drinkable and not too bad.
