Aroma is roasted with darker fruit notes, some chocolate and caramel. A touch of oat. Fairly alcoholic, but not overly so. Medium to full bodied, somewhat sweet, somewhat alcoholic, somewhat acidic. Not great, not as bad as some of their anniversary beers.

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/20 | Dec 1, 2009 Big thanks to puzzl for the trade, though I found the beer itself disappointing. Brown-black pour, tan head soon fades to a thin but lasting ring. First whiff is very dusty; this passes. The remaining aroma components are overt alcohol and vinous components that remind me of nothing so much as grape cough syrup. This bad impression carries into the flavor. The very high ABV is not remotely harmonized, and the dominant flavor is a nearly artificial grape character. The beer is not without complexity, banana, caramel, burnt sugar, woody resins are all dancing around there, but the general flavor is just plain off-putting to me. I’m clearly in a minority here, but this beer is not for me. Full bodied, warm and lively palate. ruskiimperial (73), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 16, 2009 From a bottle aged for approx 2 years thanks to BeerandIT. Pours an oil black with a light tan head with thick lacing. A very amazing and unusual beer from an interesting brewery. Aroma is has some sweet malts with chocolate and coffee, still quite a decent bit for an aged beer. Some sweet notes of raisin and dark fruit also come through. The high alcohol content is barely noticeable on this excellent beer. Snojerk321 (2002), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 5, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours jet black with a creamy tan / chocolate head that left some nice lacing. Nose starts off with some dark fruits such as raisins, dates and plums followed up by some deeply roasted malts and a distinct Belgian funk. Flavor held some coffee with a good amount of Belgian chocolate, light spice and a pretty heavy booze kick. Cletus (5056), Connecticut, USA
