Mild citrus. Odd sweet flavors, fruity, pineappe and apricot, some rye and lemon, something plastic-like. Strange and actually kinda unpleasant. Meh. Two years did not do this any favors, I guess.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 16, 2009 Bright orange in color with a white rim head. Had kind of syrupy pour. Aroma of honey, fruity, and tons of alcohol. Flavor was also dominated by alcohol. The whole experience reminded me of gasoline fumes. Not the best offering from Weyerbacher. caresville (106), Vernon, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 5, 2009 pours a goldish orange with almost no head, basically a white line around the top of the brew. smells lightly of fruits, with some grains and yeast and some very strong malts and of course overpowering of alcohol. tastes very smooth, malty but yet fruity (plum, apples, lemons) with a swallow that is easy and barely tastes of alcohol. good and powerful stuff. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 17, 2009 I think this brew is finally worth reviewing and it only took 2 years. My bottle poured into a tulip glass produced a good finger worth of white head, which left a light lace across the glass. The color of the brew was a cross of gold to amber with a good amount of carbonation coming from the bottom of the glass.
Aromas of honey, rye, sweet caramel and a light alcohol whiff come of this brew. The flavor is nice and balanced not to sweet, there is some caramel and honey up front. along with some spiciness from the rye and a light bitter from the hops in the end. Lets not forget why I aged this one the alcohol is still present in the taste but much more bearable now. I still think this could go a couple more years, if I find another bottle I will try it.
The mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation.
This brew is a good sipper one glass is enough. In other words split the bottle or pay the price of a healthy buzz. This is a big beer, make no bones about it. The brew is getting much better than it was fresh in my opinion and can only get better I think with some more age.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Sep 12, 2009 Just had this so never had it fresh but I bet it was much different when it was released. Whatever it was, it is a satisfying drink now. The hops are very muted and toned down at this point and the alcohol has melded in to form a full bodied, viscous sort of beer. Some prune and plum flavors and an intense sweetness that is bordering on overpowering but holds itself back to be a perfect complement to the rye and other malts working here. A bit syrupy but to be expected with an aged, high alcohol BW. This was stored in cellar to bellow cellar temps so I would be curious to know what other people think of it now. This was a 22. Nothing exciting but definitely not a drain pour. arrogantb (701), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 31, 2009 well this beer starts off looking good in the snifter. It smells like rye bread dipped in barleywine as well as high octane gasoline! This tastes like grain alcohol and rye whisky, pretty gross. I will be surprised if this doesn’t end up in the drain, uh oh, there it goes! This is a very bad beer in my opinion and I actually love barleywines. This was sadly unsatisfying.
I popped a 22oz of this today ྫྷ/20/08) and warned my friends that it was bad...it was just slightly more drinkable than last year and didn’t taste as horrible but it was still similar to Olde English 800, foul. Its fair to say that this improved with age but it was horrible to begin with so WTF?

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 23, 2009 Bottle was aging in my basement since it came out. It poured a hazy orange color with a nice creamy off-white head. The head went down to a film, but left nice lacing. There was a sweet malt aroma and a bit of some citrus in the aroma. The beer had a thick creamy texture. In the initial taste there was a good bit of alcohol, but it was mellowed out by the sweetness that followed. I imagine that the alcohol taste would have been a bit more domiinate if it had been drank from a fresh bottle. On the finish there was a mild bite from the hops and a slight warming felling. Good beer, shame it’s retired.
