Commercial Description:
Bottle; Pasteurised.
Ingredients: Pale, Crystal and Black Malts; Northdown hops.
"Deep reddish amber in colour, with a thick creamy head and delightful hop aroma. On the palate, it is predominantly dry, though the malt character is evident in flavour and body, and it finishes with a long-lasting and pleasant hop bitterness."

Pour is a cola brown with a small tan head. Aroma is molasses and earth. Flavor is super dry with some of the molasses in the aroma coming through. Some dark fruit is left after the swallow but nothing to save this one from the maybe category.

Bottle… Pours dark and flat – looks a lot like prune juice. Light molasses, dried plum, burnt caramel and maple syrup in the aroma. Medium-bodied with listless carbonation. Well-balanced flavor, but thin and uninspired. Watered down essences of prune juice and molasses. Finishes diluted and dull.

Bottle 500 ml
Appearance: Light brown with rich ruby light passing; medium tanned creamy head with mocha like rocky middle. 4-
Nose: Good blend of crystal malt with leafy, citric hops and light woody coco hints. 7+
Flavor/Palate : Front noted by black dark glazed crust of rye bread , smooth middle with sweeter bready malt and mineral slightly citric hops. Quiet drinkable, refreshing, satisfying offering.

500 ml, bbe Dec 08. Clear and dark copper-brown with a four finger, sticky head that lasts and leaves nice frosting on the glass. Aroma is molasses and apple with slight must and metal. Flavor is brown sugar with twangy apple (and the apple core for bittering), oak and maybe a hint of whiskey and vanilla. Light-medium body is watery with mild carbonation and finishes dry.

Poured a nice amber color with a minimal head that dissipated quickly. Odd metallic malt aroma that’s not offensive, just . . .odd. The metallic comes through in the flavor a bit too, but no the malt. It’s a very smooth beer. Pretty decent over all.

This is a strange experience. If I hadn’t just had açai berry sorbet, I would never have known what that strange smell was. And the color is just as deep and dark, the color of mashed-up raspberries, leading me to believe that something must be wrong with this bottle because from what I can see it ain’t supposed to look that way. This one was ugly, with no head whatsoever but doesn’t have that barleywine beauty to back it up. This bottle doesn’t taste off but the flatness suggests that something is wrong here too and will re-rate in the future.
